I was just watching one of the women's professional 9-ball tour matches on ESPN between Allison Fisher and Karen Corr and suddenly I noticed that it looked like the person racking was setting up the balls so that the 9-ball in the center of the rack was on the foot spot instead of the 1-ball at the head of the rack being there. In other words, the balls were racked in the correct order but it looked like the rack was moved too far forward on the table.
My 19 yr old son was watching with me and when I mentioned it to him, he noticed that it looked like they were racking the balls that way, too.
I thought I had noticed this once before on one of the matches a few months ago but today it really seemed obvious to me. Now, I checked the BCA rule book and it states that the 1 ball (at the front of the rack) should be on the footspot so it sure seems to me that they were racking the balls in the wrong place on the table.
Has anyone else noticed this or is it just a case of me (and my son) seeing things? I thought for a moment that maybe it was just the camera angle or something like that but it seems like one camera shot was almost directly above the table just prior to one of the women breaking...and it really looks like the rack was too far forward...and I not only noticed it more than once, I never saw the balls racked where I thought they should be once I started paying attention. I didn't see the whole match because I had to come into work today, but I did tape it so I can watch it when I get home to see if all the racks looked incorrect.
