View Full Version : Pool Balls, which kind?

I am 17 years old and a bunch of my friends and I have been playing pool on a regular basis for months now, moreso since summer has come about.
I decided to put some money into the table and refelted it with championship cloth and new bumpers. It is a 9x4.5 foot table and looks great right now.
Since I have refelted it, I have decided to look into a new set of balls since the old ones are more than a decade old and are starting to affect play. I have looked at Elephant Balls (marble) - -180 or so dollars and the Elephant traditional ones -- 45 or so dollars. I have also gone online at ebay and generic marble balls sell for under 25 dollars. There must be some kind of catch with the ebay listings (if anyone would know, that would be nice). What would you suggest I purchase and why?

I am something of a traditionalist myself. I find the swirls and color schemes of some of the newer sets of balls obnoxious when aiming. I have to admit I've shot very few racks with them and maybe they just take some getting used to.
Personally I like the Aramith Super Pro Balls. The Centennials are very nice also but I am not sure if there is much, if any, difference between them and the Super Pros. Investing in a good set of balls is well worth the price considering the years of enjoyment you will get out of them. And considering that you just recovered your table you might as well get the truest roll you can.
No mater what balls you choose to go with, the folks here at Seybert's have some very good prices and you can feel very confident doing business with them.
if you were trying to get out with as little money as possible, I would suggest the arimith premiers or even the standards. Why, in my opinion, it is the best value for your money. The only better balls (and by a margin so small I would venture that most players could not tell the difference) are the Super Pro or even the Brunswick Centenials. I am not a big fan of the marbleized balls only because if I go shoot somewhere else, chances are they will have the normal colored balls. I prefer not to get used to something that will not benifit me anywhere else but at home. Not only that, it is hard to get a friendly money game up with equipment that a visitor is not used to. (not that any of us would actually gamble...that would not be right...right?)

Thank you very much for your advice. I'll take a look at the store portion of the site and make a decision tomorrow. By the way, I am very impressed with the quick information you provided me with; a great way to do business. :)

Based on the advice here, I have decided to go with one of the three Belgian Aramith sets:
Super Pro (http://www.seyberts.com/billiardaccessories/table/Balls/superpro.htm) - $139.00
Premier (http://www.seyberts.com/billiardaccessories/table/Balls/premier.htm) -$79.00
Standard (http://www.seyberts.com/billiardaccessories/table/Balls/standard.htm) - $59.00
The question that I have is, would I, a pool playing hobbiest, notice a difference if given each of these sets and allowed to play a game with each. I noticed that the standard set has text on the top of the page that says "Possible small Blemishes"...what does that mean?
I'm leaning towards the Premier set, but I am still unsure.
By the way, how do the Belgian Aramith traditionals differ from the Elephant traditionals (http://www.seyberts.com/billiardaccessories/table/Balls/traditional.htm)?
Thank you again for your time, I really appreciate it.
I would not be worried about the "small blemishes" part of it. I have yet to notice any. If you have the extra money, the Premiums are a great set, and I like the number in the stripe of the stripes as opposed to in the open white field of the standards. Small difference I know, but what the heck, it actually affected my purchase a few years ago so I thought I would pass the thought along.

Thank you for your honest advice and quick response. It has made all the difference and I will be ordering from you right now. I've chosen the Premiers.
