Purchased the Lucasi from Seyberts a while back..I've mastered the jumping part....that went pretty easy...but I haven't come close to holding a straight line when the cue ball hits the table....As soon as it hits....it always goes left.....No matter where I try to hit the cue on the cue ball...same results...any suggestions? mike

I too had this very problem and I had a BCA instructor work with me on it. The solution to your problem (and mine) is there right in your own question. If the cue ball keeps going left what should you do? Aim right. Duh! How simple can it be? I was missing the point myself. As awkward as it seemed to be aiming intentionally to the right of where my mind told me I should be aiming, my jump shot did improve with this advice. This instructor said that missing left for a right-handers is a very common problem . Now that you know what the problem is you need to retrain your mind. Practice, practice and then practice some more until the shot becomes second nature to you.

The jump shot is probably the only shot that I practice faithfully, and yes the practice has paid off but I still don't consider myself a good jumper. The jump shot to me is neither an offensive (or defensive) shot but more a tool to get out of trouble.

The jump shot should be in every player’s arsenal. Occasionally, you will loose games because your opponent was able to execute a good jump shot. It would be a good thing if you could return the favor and have the jump shot get you get that game back somewhere down the line.

Keeping your elbow in also helps, as does a loose grip on the cue. Learn to be gentle with the cue when attempting a jump shot. Jump shots are difficult and many players when faced with a difficult shot tend to get a chokehold grip the butt of the cue, whether it is jump shot or not. It is amazing how much air you can get under the cue ball with an easy, gentle, light stroke.
