There is a really big difference between the "standard" cue ball that comes with most ball sets from the "red/blue dot/circle" cue balls.

The standard cue ball you will find to be quite a bit bigger than the red circle. You will find the size difference a determining factor if you are the type of player that uses alot of english.

Personally, when I go from a red circle to a regular cue ball, it takes a game or two to get used to it again.

Std cue ball, red dot, blue dot, red circle are all 2 1/4 Inch and the same weight.
Oversize cue balls and magnetic cue balls are purchased individual for use in coin operated tables. The cue ball has to seperate somehow in the machine either with a magnet or a bar to catch the larger ball.
The std set should have come with a std size cue ball
The red dot and blue dot are basically the same
The red circle like brunswick black circle have a higher and harder gloss finish, and are suppose to be milled to a higher tolerence for less ball rolloff, lower friction on impact, etc.
