View Full Version : Pechauer's shaft VS predator and meucci shaft
hi everyone. from what i read, pechauer mostly concentrate on making the butt of the cue. i agree it is very nice within reasonable price. but what about pechauer's shaft compare to predator and meucci's shaft? is pechauer's shaft stronger (more stiff like predator ) or weaker ( like meucci) , how is the power?. how is the quality of the shot?? is it solid ?? is it in the same level as predator's shaft and meucci's shaft. i just wondering if someone know about these things or have play with these cue please let me know. thanks in advance.

The stiffness/flexibility only come into play when the cue ball is not stuck with a level centerball hit. When the cue ball is stuck of center the stiffness/flexibility of a shaft are dependent on three variables.
1) The diameter of the tip. The greater the diameter the stiffer the shaft.
2) The taper of the shaft. A more conical (European) taper will be stiffer than a pro taper.
3) The grain alignment of the shaft relative to the cue ball when striking the cue ball of center. Rotate the cue 90 degrees and the stiffness of the hit, and resulting spin on the cue ball, will change. Because of the "pie slice" construction of the 314 shaft, grain alignment is consistent no matter how you rotate the cue.
As a general rule the more flexible the shaft the more spin can be applied to the cue ball. A stiffer shaft will give you less spin but it is easier to control the spin (and cue ball speed) that you do get.
With a 12.75mm tip and a 15" taper the 314 shaft has a smaller tip diameter and longer taper than what most manufactures are offering as their standard shaft. Although most manufacturers will create a shaft to your specifications, the standard configuration seems to be 13mm tip with a 12" to 14" taper.

I have been shooting with a IV-8 for the past year and love it. I ordered it with a Predator shaft. I like the Predator's smaller diameter. But I should have saved my money and just got the Peachaur shaft with a smaller diameter because they are both excellent shafts.

I have a pechauer with a pechauer shaft, and a predator shaft. Both have the same moori medium tips. It is difficult to say how a pechauer shaft plays, since they can be customized to any shape you want. I got a 12.5 inch pro taper with a 13mm tip. Fairly typical setup.
My pechauer shaft is much stiffer than the predator. It is also about 0.5 oz heavier. But I could have gotten a different taper on the pechauer, and the hit would be completely different.
Meucci makes several different shafts, so again, it is not really possible to compare them across the board. You really need to assess what you want, and then figure out who has the closest match. Or go full custom, and then you get exactly what you want.
By the way, my playing cue is the pechauer custom with a custom predator shaft. Just personal preference.

IMHO the Predator outperforms any shafty I have ever shot wir=th.

I have a Pechauer w/ both a Pech shaft and Pred shaft.
The big difference to me is when you use English you get much more from the Pred. For me, this is especially noticable on draw shots.
The Pech shaft is an excellent shaft though.
