View Full Version : Feel of Pechauer Linen Wrap

I currently shoot with a Cuetec with a Veltex grip. I'm not too fond of the grip as I prefer the feel of house cues (no wrap). I hold the cue with just my thumb and a couple of fingers and I find that the wrapless configuration of house cues enables me to maintain a constant grip throughout my stroke - I find it "sticky".

I've played with some cues with linen wraps and I feel that they would always slip if I didn't tighten my grip towards the end of the stroke. Would the Pechauer linen wrap offer a better feel. In other words, will it offer a "grippy"/"sticky" kind of feel to them?

The reason I ask is because I've been looking closely at the Ivory Collection and have been wanting to get one. I'm looking at the IV-2 at the moment given it's price point but I really want the wrapless IV-4. If the linen doesn't provide the grip I want, is it possible to get a IV-2 without the linen wrap? Also, is the wood used in the grip area bird's eye maple as well for the IV-2?

Thanks.

I feel the same way that you do. I have a joss and the wrap is so slick that i could never grip the stick unless i tightened my hand. But there are a couple of things you can do to fix that. You can either have the wrap pressed or sealed. A local cuemaker just cleaned and sealed my wrap on my joss. Just puts a coating over the wrap and in my opinion gives it a lot more of a sticky feel. Not to mention your wrap will always look brand new. Cost me like $15 to have it sealed. Im not positive about a pressed wrap but i think its just pressed down flatter.

Ok you guys, I think I can offer some real information here. I happen to like my linen wrap, but that is totally a personal choice. The good news is that Pechauer will replace the linen wrap with wood! Now I don't remember the costs incurred, but $60 seems to stick in my mind. I currently have an IV-2 and I love it, I was considering either a birdseye maple wrap or one made of cocobolo. I really would recommend calling Sid and getting the lowdown, but I REMEMBER there being a all wood wrap available from Pechauer. You will have a 6-8 week wait from Pechauer and another 2 week wait from Seyberts as they break in your cue for you
 :P (Just kidding). Give them a call, I'm sure I screwed something up.

Sorry guys, I will get the information for you in the morning. Mondays are very busy at the store and I just did not get a chance to verify the price of a no wrap cue and get it posted. (I think you are right easyrider) I just hate to take a guess from my house and find out I was wrong tomorrow.

Can they also seal the wrap if I opt for a linen wrap as mentioned by cynion?

Cynion, is this like what Meucci does with their cues?

Yeah thats what meucci does. They have a sealed wrap. The guy who did mine said he could make it smooth or rough. Meucci seems to be a smooth seal. A rougher seal i would think is just a thinner seal and i think gives it a little more grip.
