View Full Version : Tip Tools - Which Ones Really Work?

05-19-2003, 01:21 PM
My uncle recently gave me a McDermott cue of some sort, and, although I don't use it a whole lot, the tip is getting flattened/mushroomed. I know that I should probably get the tip replaced, but I was also wondering what tip tools *really* work for keeping the tip in proper shape. There are so many to choose from, so any opinions would be very helpful.

Thanks :)

get two:
Willard's Shaper in either dime or nickel radius (whichever you prefer)
Porcupine of either variety out there.
That's a good start

Sandpaper, Nail files, and a utility knife will work just fine for shaping a tip.

For scuffing the tip I preffer a tip tapper, many prefer the tip pic. I think I have been given all those little accesories through the years and they all do the job.

And the porper cut-rite is great for trimming mushrooming tips....Both the tip pic and cue cube work great....Dags and Sanj, I've never used a tip tapper, say it is better than the tip pic? I see where the ultimate tip tool has a tapper on it. Tip tapper....glad I don't have to say that fast 3 times in a row!

tip tapper.....i still can't say that quickly.
i never use that or a tip pick(don't say that quickly).
i use a fine piece of sandpaper if th chalk doesn't stay on.

I use a Tip Pik & It's George tip tapper/scuffer & shaper. Works well for me

instead of the Porper mushroom cutter just use the Porper burnisher , works brilliant on single layered tips !
