Hello I just went into the local cue repair place around me (Jointed Cue) to get a new tip and I really didn’t know anything about a tip, I still had the one that came with the cue on it. They asked me if I wanted a soft medium or hard, come someone please explain to me what the difference is between these types of tips. Also I started doing some research about cues on the Internet and found that there are many different brands of cues, however they didn’t ask me what brand I wanted, could somebody provide some insight on the different brands of tips. To go along with the tip question I read that you can have your cue “shaved” down to a smaller around to less then the 13mm, what difference would that make If you went to a 12, and on the opposite end if you had something made with a 14?

http://www.seyberts.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=591 is one of the better discussions on tips. If you need more English, the softer the tip, the better the English....however, a soft tip will mushroom very fast. Most prefer a medium tip...Moori, Talisman, LePros are some of the favorites. Hard tip is best for breaking, jumping, etc. although some prefer to play with a hard tip...depends on the type of "hit" you are looking for. I think most will prefer playing with a medium tip. I personally like Talisman. 8)
i like medium tips.
it is easier to get spin with a soft tip,but you sometimes find that potting balls is slightly harder.
try a few and find one that suits you.

I use Talisman Pro medium on my Randy Mobley custom cue, Talisman WB medium or Pro medium on my Predator 3K4 and Talisman WB hard on my Predator BK cue.
Talisman definitely treats me right.
Seybert's, by the way, has a very good price on both types of Talisman tips. Be sure to order in groups or three or more to get the price break.

I have been using a Moori M, not the very newest type, for about 5 months on my Fury NR-1 and like it very much. It is firm, but not too hard. It allows for plenty of control and spin on the cue ball and the feedback is nice.
I use in pool Moori Medium and it works for me really good.. But in carom I think that theres no better tip than Moori Soft!
