Have experimented with a lot of breaking styles in 7 ball.....Other than a soft break, I sure do a lot a scratching....anyone out there have a good breaking style they want to post? This is a killer when you make a couple of balls on the break, then scratch, leaving a runout. Post appreciated. Mike

I like to break from about 6 inches to the right of center. Works fairly well, usually drop a ball or two. Although I can't always get to the one if I don't hit straight on.

Parrot...do you use any English? That's about the way I try to hit..always get a good spread..and a ball or two.......but tend to scratch to the same side I break from.....usually the side pocket.....mike

Sometimes I throw a little right hand english on it, but mainly I just hit with a nice smooth center follow stroke.

7 ball is a great game for the accomplished player. It wouldn't be a good game for someone just working to get better from a beginner's standpoint. Mainly because when your opponent misses you had better run out or face a sure loss.
I like to brake just off center and blast with a low center ball hit to stop the cue ball in its tracks to watch the balls fly into the holes.
PS did anyone see the match when i think it was danny hariman hit crushed the rack and sunk 6 BALLS ON THE BREAK!!! now that would make the game pretty easy

I have seen the 7-ball rack set up two different ways...one with a ball right on the headspot and another with two balls facing the breaker. Which are you guys breaking on?

One ball on the spot. Take a nine ball rack and turn it sideways....then take out the 8 and 9 on the side corners. I tend to scratch way too much...trying out Sonnics center ball hit the next few days...mike

I have to disagree with Sonic on 7 ball being a great game for an accomplished player. 7 Ball is good for ESPN because it is fast and almost all offense. Great for TV but kind of boring to watch for those who know the game better than the average channel surfer. I consider myself a good player, not an accomplished player, or even close to the caliber the pros, but I can run enough racks to quickly lose interest in the game.
I think 7 Ball would be a good game for players learning the game as it would force the player to learn how to control the cue ball on an open table but because their are less interfering balls on the table allowing for more room for error thus keeping the game interesting for them.

yeah you may be right. except for the beginner player i think they would absolutely hate the game because it would be so hard for them. However it would be a good learning experiance i guess, but they would get stick of the game. I will Stick to 9 or 8 ball races to 7.

I think 7 Ball is an easier game than 8 or 9 Ball. Especially if played on a bar box with the limited room to maneuver.

Exactly, try that (7-ball on bar box) for a while and then try 8 ball on the bar box and see what happens. The difference in the amount of open space is night and day. If I am going to play 8 ball I much prefer to play it on a 9' table.
