I will go for lizard or leather wrap... :)
Custom leather on a predator. Otherwise, no wrap. Linen is the devil.

Predator 2 with white leather (^_^) It gives nice looks as white leather sits in middle of sparkling black cue
how easy was it to change the leather on the P2.
did you orininally have a leather wrap on it and why did you change it :?:

Okay. I think I had been too general about my wrap so I will explain it in more detail here. I didn't replace the original leather. All I did was... Buy a white leather from ebay (you can buy big piece like 3ft x 3ft for less than 20 bucks), cut it into the shape, wrap it around the original leather wrap, and stitch it myself (although stitching didnt come out perfect, it still holds it perfectly in place).
There are three reasons why I did this to my stick.
1) I usually play pool at the university and I felt that by changing the wrap color, it would make my cue more rarer. By doing so, I think it makes it harder for some people to steal it.
2) I have black case, black p2, and black chalk holder. I felt that I wanted to give some twist in color. I just thought white went very well with the black so I chose that color.
3) I used to play with adam ltd's "Master piece of Musashi" when I lived in Japan. The butt of the cue was a lot fatter than the predator 2 so... By having extra leather (about 2 extra wraps) the handle is fatter and gives me that comfort that I used to have.
The reason why I didnt want to replace a wrap was because it costs a lot of money and simply doing it yourself is cheaper. And I love the big handle ( i think it provides more grip) so I just kind of added the wrap to the cue and not remove the existing one.
I sort of understand that
:!: ,but why did you spend the extra and buy a P2 with leather?

I've been playing with a linen wrap for sometime now and I can't really comment on the other kinds of wraps. I am very interested in trying out a leather wrap to see if I will like it or not. I think that cues look great without a wrap if they are done correctly, Pechauer come to mind right now, although I'm sure there are others, but I don't like playing without a wrap. My hands seem to stick to the cue compared to a line wrap. I can't seem to get that nice flowing smooth stroke unless I have a wrap of some sort.
I play with the no wrap on all my cues. This tends to give me more grip, which is better because you won't tend to clinch up as much when hitting the ball and everyone knows that bad things can happen when you clinch.
It seems that most people prefer no wrap, but most cues are sold with linen.
Pechauer seems to be the only non custom cue maker who offers no wrap.
will other cue manufacturers offer no wrap as an option.

I just ordered a Phillippi Custom cue without wrap.
why do you prefer no wrap?
have you left the wrap area plain or inlayed.

Plain. As I mentioned in other posts, the added friction between my hand and the bare butt allows for a lighter grip, giving me better feel for most shots.

I have linen on mine and prefer it to no wrap, although I am considering sending it to Tiger to get a leather wrap put on it, as I saw someone's Schon that had it and was very nice. A no wrap cue makes me feel like I'm playing with a house cue and as such I tend to grip the cue too far back, which throws off my stroke. The problem with linen that I've seen is that it has to be pressed well or else it will be too coarse and won't be comfortable. I really like the way that Predator does the linen wraps on their cues and wish I could get my Viking re-wrapped in a similar fashion.

I have to go with Rick and koko on this one. No wrap just makes for a better feel. Also, like koko, I'm a fan of the simpler look.

I don't think we (Predator) are ever going to evolve into a custom cue manufacturer and offer different wrap types.
We sell 4 times as many shafts as we do cues, and I believe that our sales will continue in this fashion.
Since there are so many butt styles to choose from, it is hard for us to customize cues at this time on the level that we need to, to compete with what is offered currently on the market.
I am not saying that we are never going to offer a different type of wrap or even wrap options, I am just saying that I don't see it in the near future.
As a player that prefers no wrap and leather wrap cues, as I have posted before, I am empathetic with how certain players feel.
With wood supply being so short, it is hard for us to find the resources that would allow us to offer cues with no wrap, since the wrap section is usually a very nice piece of Birdseye or Curly Maple. And that would open the door to Cocobolo or Ebony handled cues, which would change the balance point quite a bit on different weighted cues. That would create dissatisfaction to a customer that does not know much about the weight of certain woods, and would not like the balance of a cue that they ordered based on looks and feel.
I hope I have cleared some of the air, let me know if there is something else that you think I can answer, thank you.
Thanks Seybert's for giving us this forum, I feel it is truly an asset to the pool playing community.

I like linen and leather. Like someone else stated, no wrap feels like a house cue to me and I do not like that.
"Thanks Seybert's for giving us this forum, I feel it is truly an asset to the pool playing community." - I totally agree with this statement.

Cue of Fury
Is that your first rack run? Running a rack for the first time is always a milestone to a pool player.
Not to over-shadow your accomplishment, but I just played in a tournament on Tuesday in a race to 5 and 4 out of 5 racks were run-outs. That had to be one of my best matches. Unfortunately, I won the break in the 5th game, broke, didn't sink anything and got run-out.
That's why I love this game.

Yes, that was the first time I was able to run all 8 balls in a row. I guess I just didn't feel like sitting and taking a break.
I love when I get into a tough match. New challenges are always welcome to me. :P

I have tried all, and still have the variety in my cue collection. I like the lizard the best. Lizard has a smooth surface in the middle of the wrap and gets more textured towards the ends. This lets you know where your hand position on the wrap and butt. The leather, lizard, and plain butt will give you more feed back from the shaft because they are hard surfaces. The linen will deaden the feel a little. Linen will stain where the others can be wiped off easily. If you have very sweaty hands the leather may start to break down from the salt in your sweat. If you are not satisfied with a wrap you can always have it redone or changed to something else.
I think lizard or leather gives a cue a fancier look. You would not want any wrap on a sneaky pete or a break cue. I could never figure out why Meucci puts a wrap on the cue and then coats over it? :?

I personally dont care what the wrap is either way as far as play feeling goes. Just not to picky in that manner.
I do think an unwrapped cue is ugly, just looks funny to me. I think leather is a bit more classy, which is why I opted for leather wrap on my current cue. Doesn't play any differently as far as I am concerned. I just like the way it looks.
As for the Meucci deal. I believe cue wraps stem mostly from hiding blemishes in the wood and workmanship. It saves 3/4 of the butt they dont have to make look great with inlays, etc.. Furthermore, linen wrap becomes dirty, loses color, frays, cant be cleaned easily without subtle nuances being created in the feel. So, they coat it. Now it is more durable, and has the look problem covered.
Like said, I dont really care as far as wrap goes for playing.. But the Meucci my Dad has, is the best feeling cue I have ever held because of the balance it has.. Just got lucky I think really.. I could try a hundred other cues and not find one so well balanced (TO ME)....

At this point only my break cue and a collectable are no wrap, but I think that since no wrap lets me use a lighter touch on the handle it is probably the best way to go. I’m about to order a no wrap Sneaky Pete to test this and to try a wood-to-wood joint.

Hot or cold, dry or humid, sweaty or dry hands, linen absorbs sweat and gives the most consistent feel under a variety of conditions. That is why cue makers started putting linen wraps on their cues in the first place.

Actually one thing typically not considered when choosing a round selection, is it's name.. You lucked out in picking a well named one. As pointed out by Mayoob in several articles in the past, and several cases... Personal Defense... Keyword being defense. You would be surprised when things go to court how tides can turn. Carry yourself a hollow point and suddenly your badgered as "You intended to kill him" No sir, I intended only to protect myself. Hell, even the name of my bullets imply personal safety. Much like the glazers, or mag safes. Where simply having the word safe in the name, can be used as a defense point in not intending to kill, but only to safely protect yourself.
Remember black talons... That bullet was the exact same round, save the black coating, as the Ranger SXT. Yet by it's name it carried this shadow of evil... Fury had cop killer bullets in his gun. He was looking to kill someone... blah blah...
There is more to the politics in choosing a round than stopping power. There is just not enough data for any of these tests to be 100% accurate. There are WAY to many variables. Such as where the suspect was shot, how far away, what health that person is in, what drugs they are on. I would not consider stopping power tables to be something to dictate to me which round to carry. Find something you shoot well with, are comfty with, and are politically correct...
Hmm, why the hell am I carrying Corbons then!?!?! :)

Yeah, I gots chapter 790 memorized, and I carry a copy in my car.
Actually Florida law states you cannot be in possesion of a firearm while in an establishment and seated in that portion of the establishment which sole purpose is for the consumption of alcohol.
So, you could bring it in a pool hall if not seated at the bar?? Maybe, maybe not.. It's the grey area they create that ends up being decided as legal by the jury.
There is an old saying, "I'd rather be judged by twelve, than carried by six."
But I figure in a pool hall, I am pretty safe. There is plenty of slate to hide behind, err... Under.... :D

This may be a silly question, but, why do you feel the need to carry firearms with you? Do you live in a rough part of the neighborhood?
I remember when I worked for Loomis Armored Car, we had to take a load of coin from Alberta to Montana, a state with concealed carry legislation, and I was NERVOUS. Funny thing was, we could carry our sidearms across and international border with no problem, but if we crossed the border from Alberta to British Colunbia, we needed a different permit to carry. In other words, we couldn't carry anything more than our shotguns across a provincial border. Now if that isn't screwed up logic, I don't know what is.
BTW, we carried S&W .38 Specials with hydrashock .38 +P rounds. Hopefully the company has spent the money on guns that could actually stop someone....
The coolest gun I have ever shot with was a .44 mag with mag. rounds loaded. It was like shooting a little cannon. The recoil actually made me flinch and turn my head to the side. We also shot a Moosburg folding stock shotgun with magnum slugs. That was like shooting a medium cannon and we had to hip shoot lest we put our shoulder out of socket.
Now if that isn't off topic, I don't know what is.
Oh, my .38 had a Pachmayr grip on it which is a rubber material. There, now it's sort of on topic.

This is a very old blog post of mine. Please excuse anything a bit racey as it was written a long time ago. But it still holds the same point..
I carry a gun. I have a license to do so. I also believe in God. Once, someone said to me, why do you carry a gun? I told them the obvious answer. To protect myself. Well they conveyed the thought to me that they trust that God will take care of them. I believe God will take care of me, but I need to take steps to help him. This thought just came to me, and so I am writing this. God takes care of you yes? Then tell me this. If you are driving your car, do you not wear your seatbelt, cause God will take care of you? If you cross the street do you not look both ways, cause God will take care of you? If you jump out of a plane, do you not wear a parashute, cause God will take care of you? I would think you would have to be a fool, to answer yes to any of these. And don't tell me I have exagerated by using these examples. Have you watched the news lately? Have you seen the world we live in? Maybe my eyes see differently than yours. But I will not be the victim. I pray that I never see the day that I have to pull the trigger, and end the life of anyone. But I do not plan on being a statistic myself. I was once jumped by eight Puerto Ricans with baseball bats. And a gun saved my life. They surrounded my car, they smashed my windows, and they attempted to grab me. Until they saw my weapon. Puerto Ricans can run very fast. And this was in a nice neighborhood, not a slum. I live in Florida, and have most of my life. I love it here. And not just once, but twice in my short 24 years, have I used a weapon. Lake Mary, Florida. A rich, upperclass community. And two jokers tryed to carjack me. I pulled my weapon, and just about buried it in the guys face, who was coming through my window, that I stupidly rolled down thinking he was going to tell me I had a light out or something. They ran pretty quick to, and they were 100% white, driving a nice car, in a nice area. God will take care of me, but don't turn this around on me. Even the bible says that Satan rules this world right now. Damn, isn't that blatantly obvious!? I am going to take care of myself, and my loved ones. Life is hard sometimes, and lonely, and not always easy. And sometimes, just like anyone else I wonder, why go on. But in the end I love my life, and I love who I am, and where I am at in this world. I aint giving up myself, and there is NO way I will let someone save me that choice!

In my old age (hmm.. 28...) My opinion has not much changed. Really it is an easy choice for me. Honeslty, like wearing a seatbelt. It is their to protect me, it is not illegal to have or use, and it could very well save your life.
A firearm for me is seen as the same type of thing. I can legally own and carry one, so why not? Why not have that extra bit of protection if you can? Nothing more, nothing less... I dont want to up-play or down-play what a gun is. When it comes down to it, it is used for one thing. To bring someone down. It's purpose is nothing else. Simple...
Of course, I wouldn't recommend one for a hot-head or someone with little prudence. It is a responsibility, just like anything else.

I do agree with you on guns. As you can tell, I enjoy shooting and I use to use guns in my daily work. I was looking at Glock .40 semi-auto, but I don't have the cash to buy it right now.
Anyway, I am not trying to say you guys are wrong, I just don't see the need. My situation is also different.
To put it in a pool aspect, some guys play with Cuetec cues, which is something I wouldn't do. It's a bad analogy, but it works. :D
