I was wondering what everyone thought of the training videos they have bought over the years.
where can you get these videos
I have got byrnes videos vol 1,2 and 5.
1 is very basic and good for a beginner.
2 is useful.
5 is an excellent video.they go well with the books.

The monk's video are next to useless, I don't know how they could come out first in any poll.
The best videos aren't even listed, those would be Robert Byrne's Vol 1 & 2.

I bought the Jimmy Reid DVD's. No Time for Negatives and 8 Ball Strategies.
I didn't find the 8 Ball Strategies very helpful as he talks to fast and the quality is poor. Dont waste your money on this one.
The No Time for Negatives, well once again he talks to fast and doesn't explain things to well, but there are many many useful tips in it. I usually have to watch each section over and over until I can understand the way he is trying to explain things.

I have the Jimmy Reid "No Time for Negative" video as well. He does speak quickly, but he has some great tips in the video. His banking system is a can't-miss system. I have annoyed many of my buddies by banking out of safeties with it.
I have also watched a video by Earl Strickland that was pure crap. He went over things extremely fast and didn't explain most of the things he did. When he was done with a shot, he would stand up with a smile on his face that kind of said, "Aren't I great?". He is an amazing player and apparently a very nice guy, but his video sucks.

The worst video ever has to be "Learn to Play the Winning Way" by Wade Crane. If you never seen a game of pool before in your life it might be alright. He holds up a cue and says "this is a cue stick"., " I am going to show you banking" and he banks a ball. The whole video is like this. Do not waste your money on this one.
Earl Strickland is a nice guy ?????
Earl is one of the best 9ball players who ever lived, but one thing is for sure, he is NOT a nice guy, he could be o.k. when he wins but usually he is a prick.
He even got thrown out of the pool hall which had him as a house pro.
p.s I have byrne II & V videos and they are quite good.

how do you know he's a prick? what were the circumstances of the pool hall despute? I really like Earl Strickland one of the best players i have ever seen... I haven't seen how he acts off the table but honestly i really don't care. He is a pool god not a personality wiz. Still he is a star and people usually think a star is an asshole if they dont sign 100 autographs every time asked.
Buddy hall's clock system was the worst one ive ever seen... after watching for 10 minutes you get the concept and can learn no more. plus after 10 min you just watched half of the video. can we say......... rip off
being around players for 9 days in tournament will give quite a good picture who is a nice guy and who is not.
I love to watch Earl play you can't tell what he is going to do and how he is going act and with whom he will start to argue over nothing... oh yes and he shoots an amazing game of 9ball.
his behavior on the table may get a lot of criticism, but I find it amusing, and I think that he is good for the sport since he draws the crowd who wants to see how he is going to act.
If you'll ever be around him for more then 10 minutes away from the table, you'll find that he is a racist, redneck prick and a sour looser.

Any feedback about Bert Kinister's videos? I just got an email from him saying that they would be available on DVD within the next week or two.

I have all of his tapes. When I last talked to him about DVD he said it would be too expensive to transfer.
As for the tapes there is a lot of great material in them, but I think you need to start at the first one and then go in sequence to get the benefit. It also helps to look at a few of them before trying to do the shots in the first tape because you will get more info on how to do these shots. I have had these tapes for 4 months now and my skills have greatly increased. I now approach each shot as a number as he suggests and I very rarely miss it. The problem I have now is to get that first open shot to keep the run going. The other problem is not getting the breakout as planned.

I've got instructional videos by all of the instructors listed on the poll (and other instructors as well) and I have to agree with you that the Monks are the worst for sure.
Dr.Cues videos (sold by the monk) however, are very good to excellent with loads of info on kicking and banking. Highly reccomended for all nine ball players. RJ
