I am pretty good at just lifting the ball up from hitting extreme draw on the cue ball with a reasonably flat stick. That is illegal and what im asking is how do you jump it without hitting underneath the ball? Is there any links that anyone could provide i would much appreciate it.

Thanks

I would like to know also...I can get the ball to jump off a rail but I can't get it to jump off the tip of my cue :(

You may try clicking on the Bunjee Cues on the Seyberts page......over to the left where the cue brands are listed...they give decent demonstration....not that I'm good at it.......mike

As per advice I once read here...I bought the Lucasi jump cue from E-Bay for about $52 and It jumps the ball great. I can jump from 1.5 ball widths away very easily over 95% of the time. I recommend it.

Thanx Sid.
I didn't have a jump cue so a broke down my break stick. I read the web page and within 10 minutes jumped a ball 12" away. Then made 4 of 5 shots. Is this a leagal shot using half of a stick?

a jump stick needs to be 40 inches minimum.
try a sanko jump handle.

Now imagine what you can do with a jump cue made specifically for that shot.

My teammate has a jump stick from Stealth that works pretty good. I haven't practiced enough with it but I am able to hit the jump shot once in a while with it. My teammate can do them all the time though, but he's practiced a bit with it.

Get a jump stick or get beat by somebody who has one. They are not very expensive. Jump sticks have a thicker shaft and a rock hard composite (not pure leather) tip. Stay away from the Jump/Break cues. My experience with them is they may be ok for break stick but as a jump cue they leave a lot to be desired.

As for learning how to use it get some one who is good at the jump shot to show you. You will be surprised at how easily you can get the cue ball airborne. Shot making takes a lot of practice but often times the best you can hope for is to just get a hit and avoid a foul.

Besides, the game is a lot more fun when played in three dimensions!

I was up at Seyberts last night and Rick showed me how to do it, it was very easy. I am pretty good at it now.
The trick is the hit the very center of the ball no matter how far you want to jump it, and hold the cue loosely.

I also purchased the Lucasi jump cue. You can find them at Seyberts and also on Ebay for great prices. It has a 14mm tip designed for jumping.

Getting the cue ball to elevate legally simply requires a downward hit on it. If you have ever made a breakshot that made the cueball fly off the table on the hit, it is because the cue ball was slightly elevated off the table when it struck the rack. This was a result of a downward hit on it...forcing it into the slate...and it rebounded upward. This is exactly what is meant to be achieved with a jump attempt. Hit the cueball downward and it will respond with a leap.
