Griff, you might try to find a stud..or rafter...I don't think the sheetrock will hold anything long if it is hanging from it....You can get a studfinder for just a few bucks....or I'll send you one of mine...I have several around the shop. 8)

Thanks for offer of a loaner,...I have a nice stud finder, but if the studs were not directly over the table, then I was unsure of how to center the chains.
I guess I could put a board across the ceiling between the two studs and then mount anywhere and it would be strong.
Griff
This is what I did, it wasn't centered, so I made my own bracket, which was attached to the studs, but off centere a little so that it lined up. It looks great and it is strong
Is there a certain height the light should be off the table? (2 foot? 3 foot?)
Thanks!

I think it is according to the type of light. That measurment was in the instructions when I got mine. Detailed all measurements in a drawing.

I asked my general contractor/carpenter friend. The proper way to do this is to open the ceiling and toe nail boards with bolts for mounting your light. A big effort compared to a simple mounting bracket.
Regarding height - I read somewhere to mount the bottom of the lights at 62". It suggested a range of 58 to 66". If you have to mount it high (new construction), then lower it after the inspection.
