A friend of mine just purchased a new Brunswick table. It played fine but I found myself distracted by this noise it made when the balls moved around the table. The noise kinda sounded like the same sound that a
bowling lane makes when the balls go down the lane. This is to the extreme of course.

I read on the Olhausen site : http://www.olhausenbilliards.com/
that they use a type of underliner to keep table noise down and help support the slate. Does this underliner help keep the noise down?

Last question is: Do all home version tables make this noise? If not which tables do not make this noise?

I beleive this is from the 3/4 inch slate. The thicker the slate the better, also if it is backed it will help the noise too. The under line that they are talking about is the backing, some companies use it and some don't. I think the big difference is the thickness. The Valley table are none for this because the slate doen't bolt down.

hey Rick,

thanks for the reply, but when you say Valley table...what do you mean? My friend just bought a Brunswick.

The Olhausen also has a 1" Slate with a Slate liner and then a Uniliner.
Is this good or bad?

And is there a lot of companies that do not bolt down their Slate?
Thanks for the help.

The Valley table is the ones you see in the bar. 1" backed slate is the best out there, with some exceptions from Connelley. The have the Ultimate which has 2" backed slate. The only company that has the floating slate is Valley. If you get one of the top name brands, you will not be disappointed.

If I had the $$'s I'd get a Diamond Table.
