View Full Version : Weight Bolt ?

I have just bought a VM39 and really like the feel of the cue. I know about the 'weight bolt' in the Viking cues. Why does Viking say that you need to return the cue to them for weight adjustment? It doesn't look like 'rocket science'. How deep are the threads that the bolt screws into? can the bolt be threaded in further to adjust the balance, but keep the same weight? Any advice on the Viking weight bolt?

thanks,

It takes a special tool. You can purchase this tool from us for $10.00 and $3.00 for the extra weight bolts. The bolts in the Viking cues go down into the butt about 8", the nice thing is you can play around with the balance point if you like. Let me know if I can help you out.

You most certainly don't need to return it to them for adjustment. I don't have a tool for mine but my local shop will adjust it whenever I need. I just went back to the original weight bolt (19.5) from the 20 that I had put in. It's helped out a lot and is really nice that I don't have to buy a new cue to adjust weights. It's good for people to figure out what they like for cheap.

I have an allen wrench that came in a standard metric set that does a great job and it cost 6 bucks for the whole set.

Is it just as simple as using this tool to remove the weight bolt and replace with a different viking weight bolt ? Is the weight bolt not glued on a bit so it wont buzz ? Can one move back the weight bolt so that it is only down into the butt less than 8 " if you want to maintain same cue weight but more backward balance ?

No, it's not glued in. I don't think it will buzz though, as it is screwed into the butt throughout the length of it. Not screwing it in all the way should give you the desired effect.

It might buzz, so what we do is add a little silicone to the weight bolt. This will insure it not to move or buzz, but can still be replaced.

Here's another question about weight bolts. I have a VM25 that has the original weight bolt in it to make it 19.5 oz. How light can I make it by replacing the bolt? If I removed the weight bolt completely how much would it weigh?

It all depends on how much the weight bolt weights. You can take it out and take it to the post office to weight it or to a local meat department. They all have pretty accurate scales.
