I bought a white diamond break jump tip for one of the shafts on my Ray Schuler cue. It works well but it has come off 3 times now. I have replaced my own tips for many years without problems. I have built and flown many RC model planes so I have learned to make good glue joints.
I used super glue the first time and epoxy the next two tries. The super glue lasted a little longer than the epoxy which surprises me.
What am I doing wrong. I know in the past some quemakers used felt pads between the tip and shaft, is this something to try. What is the proper way to glue on phenolic tips.

I had similar issues with super glue gel but the regular one worked for me and the tip is holding very nice so far....

Some people swear by the CA gel, some people prefer the thinner stuff.
I've used both but prefer the thin CA because it is more versatile around the shop.
CA (CyanoAcrylate - super glue) has a shelf life and once opened, can start to expire rather quickly. When I do a tip for someone and they later tell me that the tip popped-off, I know that it's time to retire the batch I've been using and start with a fresh supply. I don't do a lot of tips but when I do, I use what is known as an accelerator. It forces an instant cure of the CA and is helpful in the bonding of difficult or dis-similar mtrls. Technically, CA isn't fully cured before 24 hrs. after application unless an accelerator is used to force the cure.
Kory at Seybert's does an incredible amount of tip replacements and he's very good at it. I'll see him Monday and ask him if he has time to offer some input to this thread.

I use this stuff from Seyberts catalog: http://www.seyberts.com/products/Special_T_Glue_Accelerantor_Cue_Tip_Glue-1951-24.html

I also use this to prep the ferrule and tip base: http://www.seyberts.com/products/Cue_Top_Sander-61-24.html

Put a phenolic on a break cue 4 years ago... Tip has yet to have issue, and it has broke many racks on a weekly basis.

Before you go out and purchase more glue I would try and scuff the glue side of the tip more with 60 grit. What I have done that has worked also is take your razor blade and scribe lines on the glue side of the tip. By using this method I have never had one pop off, but I also use the special T glue with accellorator.

I'm sure that works.

I had the same issue with a White Diamond and I used a tip pick on the bottom of the tip and the end of the ferrule and then put a thin layer of glue on both surfaces.

My thinking is that glue would go in the tiny holes on each end and then when bonding the 2 pieces together it would become as if it had been nailed or anchored down with tiny spikes.

That's at least 2 years ago and it has never came off again.

The air you breath is harmful for your health.... But it would be more harmful to not breath at all....
