God morning,
I have just purchased my first jump/break cue, I have been shooting pool now for 45 years and have never seen or heard of the jump shot untill recently. My question is are there any instruction dvds out there for this and allso do you use all 3 pieces of the cue for the jump shot or for the break

You can use the 3 piece cue to jump and break with. IMO, the 3 piece is better for long jump shots. Or APA. Break it down into the 2 piece for short jump shots. There are probably instructional dvds out there somewhere, but i was told and taught myself how to jump. Basically you want to aim about 3/4 of the way up on the cue ball and shoot down into it at aobut a 45* angle. Some people like to "frog" it, which is poking the cue ball without bracing your hand on the table. This is pretty much unpredictable as far as aim and english induced into the cue ball. The other way to jump is to actually stroke like you were shooting a regular shot, but you are jacked up at the 45* angle with your hand bridging the cue on the table. The other important thing to have is a phenolic (hard) tip to jump with. I can't jump with a soft tip, although some people can.
