So what's the deal with these cues.....anything good? I like the designs!
gordo
I heard some nice things about them, they are made by Predator after all...
I don't like the designs

yeah...some of the designs are kinda ugly but I like the anthrax. i definitely like predator but can't afford. i saw they are giving out a free shirt with the poison cues...at least the shirt looks cool.

We have over 10 different brand demo cues in our showroom and I have played with every one. Poison is one of my favorite cues.

Yeah guys, we are having a Christmas gift kind of thing. Anyone who purchases a Poison cue between now and Jan 15th is eligible for a free T Shirt and towel. The shirts are very cool looking. The guys at Seyberts will be sending out the cards with purchases.

Just curious Straycat, what would you consider a better cue in the $300 price range?
Just curious Straycat, what would you consider a better cue in the $300 price range?
Although I do not agree with Straycat as I find some of the "Chinese" cues (and some Taiwanese cues) to be quite well constructed and well worth what they cost, some even play very good...
But if I was to spend $250 - $350 (is that a fair $300 range???) then here are some ideas:
1. Predator SP4RW (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Red_4_Point_Sneaky_Pete_Wood_to_Wood_Joint-1501-34.html) - $339.15
2. Pechauer JP07 (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Pechauer_Cue_JP07-1641-42.html) - $297.00
3. Pechauer JP09 (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Pechauer_Cue_JP09-1643-42.html) - $315
4. Viking G21 (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Viking_G21-1555-282.html) - $232
5. McDermott Arizona (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Arizona-1409-53.html) - $295
6. McDermott Gentry (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Gentry-1399-53.html) - $263.20
7. McDermott Sunrise (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Sunrise-1408-53.html) - $247.20 (I actually own this cue and I think it a really nice cue)
8. KJ 45-1 (http://www.seyberts.com/products/Kj_Cues_45_1-1630-160.html) - $350 (This is a custom made cue!!!)
9. KwikFire KFCBK (http://www.seyberts.com/products/KFCBK_KwikFire_Cue-100005-369.html) - $296 (cues made by Carolina custom cues)
10. There are some nice Lucasi LTD cues out there that range around $250, their construction is very nice and they have a very nice hit and feel.
11. There are some up and coming cue makers that will make a very nice plane jane/ marry widow cue for about $300.
All of the above cue may not necessarily be or play better the Poison cues but they look much better IMO!!!
I guess you can understand me and not take me for a shallow person that think looks is important as well... after all I'm not the one who matches his cue to what he wears.... :icon_biggrin: :)

yeah i would rather have a cue that plays well then a cue that looks good for same price point. i've hit with a buddy's Poison cue and I like the feel. can't say the same for mcdermott or viking.

If you like the Poison hit/feel and its design then go for it, that's he perfect cue for you. :)

I agree with both of Skor's last two posts. I've played with the McDermott Arizona and like the way it feels. Especially after putting a Preadator shaft on it. If it looks good and feels good to you, and is in your price range, I say go for it. I haven't played with a Poison cue yet, but would like to try one out.
I also wouldn't call a cue a piece of crap just because it's made in China (or Taiwan). Say, doesn't Predator have a factory in China? Come to think of it...doesn't Instroke have a factory there as well? Both the best of the best top of the line cue/shaft and cases if you ask me.
A little off topic: I got the Sedona last December and am loving it. I had it built with the implex joint instead of the metal sleeve as the latter tends to cause the cue to have a "harder" feel to the hit. The leather wrap feels awesome and it's a little on the heavy side with the balance point further back than I like. I'll drop it 2 ounces with a lighter bolt and that should mitigate both of those issues. (I ordered a 21 because I like heavier cues; but, I'm predicting I play jsut as well if not better moving it down to 19)
Cheers!

I usually take Skor's advice into high consideration and agree with him on most of his points of view however, his personal preference as far as the cues looks are far off my own.
Quality and looks both have a great importance on the purchase decision.
I never tried any poison cue but from what had been said here it looks like a very good product for the price, probably the best out there.
you like the way they look, Predator's reputation backs them up so the quality is there just go for it is my advice.

McDermott Navigator II with predator Z2 shaft, Meucci Freshman 01 with black dot shaft
I like the looks of my McDermotts and the feel of my Meuccis but I play the same either way, go figure

the poisons hit sorta like the predator. personally, i think its the best cue in that price range. the pechauer probably edges it out, but honestly it hits very well. makes balls good. and has a great feel. not at predator level but a very nice cue.

I just bought a Poison cue. I had shot with others in the price range, Viking, Perch, (cough) cuetec, etc., and found that dollar for dollar it is a great cue. Very lively action in comparison, partially due to the Sarin tip. The Venom shaft acts more like a 314 junior IMHO, more deflection than the Pred 314 or Z, but way less than any other standard shaft I've hit. The feedback from this shaft is quite good, I can't say if it's the DD tech the're spewing, but whatever it is its nice. I was a little hesitant on the bullet joint, though. This is my only con of this cue. I know it fits tightly and all, but it just seems like it needs to screw down another thread or two. When all is said and done, for the money, I recommend this cue. And again, as anyone will tell you, it's not the stick that makes a player, its the player who makes the shots stick.

as the owner of the vx playing cue i would have to say it was worth the cash, the venom shaft was nice played with it for about a year and still do from time to time but recently upgraded to the predator z2 shaft and love it even more. I would have to agree though that it would be nice if the bullet joint had a turn or 2 more to it but oh well. One of my friends got the poison arsenic AR3, I shot with it for a bit but personaly didn't like it. It just didn't seem to have the feel that the vx does. His bullet joint also came loose after about 4 months... he was a bit rough on his cue though so...
just my 2 cents
oh and if you want to see weird check out the ghost joint poison has...

Hey If you can test hit with one ( ei find someone who has one) and you like it go for it. I haven't got the pleasure of hitting with one myself and kindda curious. They do look cool. I'm not a fan of the predator hit, so I have been worried of weather I would like one. But predator is a very respected name in pool and are quality so its just a matter of if you like how it hits. good luck and hope you find the cue you like and play well with. Me I love my Lucasi Hybrid cue.

I've demo'd nearly all of the poison models and the break cue as well. I thought the break cue was pretty impressive. While the playing cues was decent. To compare it to a Pechauer is absolutely insane IMO.
Now for my disclaimer: I shoot with a Pechauer...lol
