KJ,

I just got a McDermott I-2 shaft to use on a McDermott Mojave cue. Both cue and shaft are black collar, 3/8 - 10 and the collars match very well. When I put the cue together, the joint is really tight, requiring way more torque than seems right. I have taken the shaft off and on probably 10 times, thinking it would loosen up a bit, but it doesn't seem to change.

The shaft was shipped from McDermott to muggy Houston, TX, so it has experienced quite a change in humidity over the past week or so.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks so much.

Griff,
A common practice that I use, short of re-tapping the hole, is to place some candle wax shavings on the pin and at the entrance of the shaft. Put the cue together and work the shaft back & forth on the pin working the wax into the shaft's insert. She should move a little easier for you. Several treatments may be necessary to get it were you like. The wax shouldn't hurt the insert and it certainly isn't going to hurt the pin. Hope this helps.

KJ,

Thanks for the tip. I tried the candle shavings suggestion and it worked. The joint is still a little tight, but much better. I really appreciate your help.

Griff,
You're very welcome. That's why I'm here.
Well, one of the reasons anyway.
Glad to be of help.
