Cue Maker,
I would like the weight of an older Schon reduced by 0.5 oz. I removed the weight bolt and noted that its aluminum, which weights almost nothing. Can the weight be reduced by drilling out more depth in the core of the butt/sleeve or am I stuck with the weight it is? I have a small cue repair shop and feel confident that I could drill out this weight with my lathe, but I'm unsure of the construction of the butt/sleeve core and don't want to affect its integrity.
Thanks, Mark

Mark,
The construction of a Schon cue is in the traditional/conventional manner. There is nothing mysterious about how they are put together. What I am saying is, should you decide to drill a little out, you'd only be removing wood & nothing else. However....be mindful that the minor diameter of a Schon 3/8" diameter wght. blt. is 5/16". This is the largest diameter drill that you can use without cutting into the threads that secure the wght. blt.

You are going to need a rather long 5/16" drill-bit, maybe 10" overall.
The wght. blt. hole is already probably 5 or 6" deep and you are going to need to remove at least 2-3"(maybe more) of 5/16" diameter to realize a reduction in wght. of just 1/2oz.

Be sure to re-install the wght. blt. The head of the blt. helps to secure the butt-cap and you'll need it to attach the bumper to. Good Luck. KJ

Thanks a ton! I was assuming this, but its always good to get someone's opinion before I do the work.
Cheers, Mark
