View Full Version : Ferrule
Hi,
I have a mcdermott break cue and it's ferrule is so so long... I felt dat it is too long and i could not break well... Should i cut the ferrule to make it shorter ??? Izzit true dat shorter ferrule can have more power when breakin ???
King,
If you want to break well, just have Talisman Extra Hard tip on your break cue. I have been told it works VERY well on break cues and is common.
I myself don't think it has anything to do w/ ferrule...I just think ya just need to have good arm strength to push that cue w/o ripping the cloth off the table.
I've broke with various cues....bar cues, Hubler cues, Viking cues, Predator cues, and blah blah blah. I think ya just need to have good tip on the cue itself (btw..those bar sticks SUCKS! can't even hold chalk! ) and good arm strength to sling that cue foward :)
Laterz!

Don't think it has much to do with the lenght of the ferrule. You might be thinking of the Predator BK that has a shorter ferrule. That is for a couple of things, but not much to do with power. The Predator BK is specially made to produce more power, but also to reduce as much deflection to the cue ball as possible, hence the shorter ferrule. This will help keep the cue ball on its intended path to the rack and to deliver as much energy to the rack as possible.
If it is more speed and Power that you are after, I would think about taking a little weight out of the cue and like Deb said to try a harder tip. Also, work on getting the whole body into the stroke of the break. Much in the way golf requires the whole body movement, the break is the same. The more body into the stroke the more power delivered to the cue.
Good Luck,
