Hello,
i am a new member, and i have a question with regard to Micarta.
For making ferrules, where can i order a piece of white Micarta? (I mean the original Micarta from Westinghouse or International Paper Co.)
Thank's and regards
O. Weißenfels
Hello,
The old style micarta is no longer available due to the fact that it contained asbestos. The current style of micarta is available through Atlas Fibre, the billiards div. : www.cuestik.com

Hello KJ,
thank's for your help.
I have found the Ivory Micarta on the site http://www.cuestik.com.
But they only offer very thin pieces (thickness between .031 and .156").
For making ferrules i need a thickness at the minimum 15 mm.
Regards

Apparently then, they no longer carry it. My older catalog shows micarta ferrules, though the new one doesn't and I have bought them from Atlas at a client's request. I don't use micarta except for some inlays. Since I don't keep-up on sources of it, I don't know where to send you.
Ferrule mtrl. rod is sold in diameters of .562" which is about .012" over 14mm. This is because billiard equipment specifications limit the size of tip/ferrule to 14mm. Buying 15mm rod would just be more money to make more chips.
I use linen based melamine & aegis. If you want to reduce deflection, use the lightest mtrl. you can get. That would currently be 'Titan'. These 3 mtrls. are available from Atlas.
