KJ - What are your thoughts on the use of this pin. I want it all. Advantages/Disadvantages you name. Cost of metal pins?

Thanks for any inputs..

I see no advantage to the G-10 pin other than it's the lightest of all the std. pin mtrls.(SS, alum. titanium, brass). Whether that's plus/minus is open to debate. Joint pin mtrl. in itself has no effect on how a cue hits or plays. The purpose of any joint pin is to connect the shaft to the handle, nothing more. Anyone claiming otherwise is delusional.

G-10 is the most expensive of the pin mtrls. mentioned due to the difficulty of machining. It's harder than the 'hubs of hell'. I'm somewhat conservative in my selection of cue building mtrls. I tend to make my selections based on what I KNOW that works for a particular application. Just because something is new and touted to be the latest/greatest, doesn't impress me much. I want to see some history of success, a track record and more importantly, a reason that it's better than what I'm currently using. IMO, G-10 is a fad.

A little history on G-10 as it applies to cues. A very well respected and renowned cuemaker by the name of Joe Gold (Cognesenti Cues) was the first to start using G-10 for the pin on his cues. It was rumored that he got the mtrl. from NASA. Because of Joe's reputation as a C/M, a buzz of interest soon followed. Suddenly, it's the 'hot' topic.

Look, just because something is new doesn't mean it's better. There have been very few advancements in the construction of cues, so few in fact that I can count them on one hand. The leather tip (obvious improvement), the Predator shaft (improved performance) and the Uni-Loc joint (I'm not convinced on this one but they sure are popular).

My criterion is simple; if it's better, prove it.

Just what I needed to hear. Thanks for the quick response.

I was looking at some Barringer cues and didn't know much about this pin other than it is expensive as hell in my taste.

Again Thanks.
