I recently sold my Fury J/B cue to purchase a new one. I loved the Fury, as it breaks - and jumps - great. It had some kind of weird uni-lock-ish joint above the forearm and a QR for the jump cue. It also, of course, has a phenolic ferrule/tip assembly. I am now ready to buy a Heartbreaker 2 break cue from Seyberts (with much customization). I guess my question is, what kind of a difference can I expect going from a 3 piece J/B cue to a 2 piece break cue with a wood-to-wood joint? I know it's going to be different, but is there anything I can do to ease the transition? Should I go with a uni-lock joint as opposed to the standard 3/8 x 10? I'm definitely going to get a phenolic tip assembly put on, and I'm going with a custom fitted Intimidator I-1 shaft. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Wow-wow-wow... That's a lot of customization!

So you want a McDermott Heartbreaker with an I-1 shaft? Why go for the I-1?

As for the joint: I don't think that a Uni-Loc joint would help as that goes into a brass insert and not into the wood directly!
My theory is that the more thread the screw has the better the transition... Please correct me if I'm wrong, that's just what I put together at the moment :)

I own a McDermott Navigator II as my shooting cue, (which is why I'm also going for the black lizard wrap on the Heartbreaker 2 instead of the irish linen) and last year purchased an Intimidator I-2 for it. I fell in love with the shaft, and figured the I-1 would be a nice addition to the break cue to give it that extra kick.

The way I understood joints is, metal is going to provide for better transfer of energy than wood will. I could be wrong on this, but that's the way I always heard it.

As far as I know it is exactly the opposite that goes for the joints. The w2w joint has a much better transfer than a steel one!

The lizard wrap should give the cue some extra style - and guess what, out of my 3 favorite McD. cues one is the Heart-breaker (black) and the Nav. II! :)

You have excellent style my friend! :D

Have you seen the Heartbreaker 2 yet? It's their cue of the month, and it's mean!

Thanks for the feeback pooh.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm....  :D

Now this one should look awesome with a black leather wrap!! However I liked that clean design of the Heart-breaker 1 - this one looks a bit more heavymetallish :D:D But anyways, I always loved the black stain on the McDermotts - firstly I wanted to get a M3-3D Sunrise - I was lucky enough to hold one in my hand in the shop and daaaamn... That black was so deep that I couldn't look anywhere else! (I liked the Paduak rings too). However finally I got a Warden because the Sunrise in the shop was a little bit damaged on the bumper and I had to wait another 4-5 weeks for another one to arrive - and guess what, I didn't know Seybert's at that time (one of my crucial mistakes in my life :D If I ever have a child I will show him this site on the day (s)he can read! )

I really liked the original Heartbreaker as well, but this one is a little more masculine. I've only been playing McDermott for a relatively short time,(maybe a year and a half) but already I'm a believer. I'll never own anything else.
