I postde these earlier but i would like a proffesional opinion on this topic. I am thinking about changing the wrap on my schon a leather wrap. how big of a difference will it be and would you guys suggest it. Thanks
Hello & Thank You for your question,
A leather wrap is a personal preference. What feels right for one person may not be right for another. The only way that you are going to know if you are going to like leather is to try it. However, before you go spending any money, see if you can find someone in your area that has a leather wrapped cue and explain to them your interest and ask them if you can hit some balls with it to see if the feel agrees with you. You may like it and you may not.
But you need to experience the feel for yourself before you make any hard decisions. It's your cue and it's your money, let's see if we can get it right the first time.
I think that in order to put a leather wrap instead of a linen wrap there is a need to sand down the grip area because the leather is thicker and you want to keep the wrap flush with the cue as much as possible.
So you have to understand that once you put leather, you can't go back to linen. (KJ, correct me if I'm wrong)
So I agree with KJ that you should find someone with a leather wraped cue and try it out, although I must say that it take some time to get used to so I don't know if a few shots will be enough....
If the weather condition in your area is mostly humid and your hands sweat a bit and this cue is your main playing cue then I may suggest to stick with the linen.
Hello Again,
Skor is correct on a lot of points, the humidity, how much sweat your hand produces, etc. The one point that I need to chime in on is the thickness of the leather itself. Today's leather wraps are cut to a thickness that is the equivalent of the thickness of the linen cordage (.025"). With today's leather there is no need to sand down the wrap area to install the leather and should you, at a later date decide to go back to Irish linen, that option is still open to you. I hope this helps and should you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.
