I was really bored a few days ago and I was browsing a local second hand site when I found this cue... It's a Joss 101 (the lowest Joss model), the ad said "in good condition" but the pic was a bit of a blur... well I called the guy and told him that I would take it from him if the butt is in good condition (knowing that my 314 and ob-1 will fit it, I didn't care for the shaft....)

to be honest I thought that the cue would be a bit banged up... and I really don't like to buy second hand cues...

Well I met the guy and he pulled out a brand new cue, still in the plastic bag and still in the shipping tube....

the tip was chalked and he did say that he used it twice...
I knew he was honest because the shaft look brand new without a scratch or a chalk stain.....

Well I grabed it and run..... (I did pay first 8) )

So I got a brand new (almost) Joss cue with a perfect weight - 18.1oz gray stain butt and forearm, nothing fancy but for less then $100 :!: Probably my best buy....

it looks something like that:

WOW! This guy steal it from somewhere or what?!?!?!?! Theres no way if he bought it new, he wouldn't have let it go for that price!

Well, at least it has been stolen once anyway... when you bought it for less than $100!

Good Buy! Hope you enjoy it!

Naa this guy is cool... he got it as a present and I don't thing that he knows how much it's worth.... he asked for $120, I gave him $85...
and I forgot to mention that it came with Delrin joint protectors as well, that's another $10....

hahhaa, what else is next? Great buy and reading that you offered the guy $85 laughed me either! Wish I could find such a bargain around here too :-)))

BTW: nice cue!

Trust me when I say that finding bargins like that over here it's one in a milion... most people over here shoot with $20 - $50 cues... when the ad said Joss, I read it 5 times to make sure I got it right...

I offered him $85 if it's in good condition... one ding and I would have offered him $40 - $50

What's next?

Well I decided to wait with the custom Jump/Break cue so I got a BK2 on the way and a J&J jump/break for really lazy nights when I don't feel like taking out 3 cues...

I look forward to hearing your reviews on the BK2... I still personally have mixed emotions on it, but as stated in another post, the weight wasn't perfect for me as it wasn't my cue.

$40-50... lol 8O :) By the way, almost the same price range rules over here too, but you may find $200 cues and a few more expensive ones coming with more serious players (for example a nice Bear, a 4k7 or a $350 Kruger... and a few even more expensive, but those are belonging to the pros... :-S)

To be honest I have mixed feelings regarding to the BK2 but that's just due to its price - however, that's a great break cue once you have decided to spend the money on buying one.

Regarding to break cues: a nice fella around here has a fury j/b, that's 4 point, has a wood handle and looks.... assssstonishing! I think I'm in love - not with the fella but with the j/b :-)

When I bought the first BK, I though the same thing... "spending $300 on a cue that you will use only a few times a night....."
and it took me a while to come to a decision, in fact it was an impulsive one since I got it at the 2003 WPC at the Predator booth, It's easier to come to a decision when the cue is right in front of you then looking at a picture of it on-line.....
and although I can break very well (I'm proud of my break... when it's on...) with any cue, I did feel the difference when breaking with it, so if you are a serious player then a good break cue is something good to have! and for serious players it is worth the money.
But trust me that I did not pay $300 for it....

Now you have doubled the chance that I'm getting a break cue soon... but damn, I need the money for a Spanish lenguage school, for getting a driving licence and all these are to come in the close future :-SSS

Nah, how much did you pay for that Bk2? $150-1 small ding on the handle=$75 (just kidding, you don't have to tell how much you paid for it, I was only joking ;o))

You're right Skor, IMO the break is the most important shot in pool for any serious player...

I've shot perfect in my local league for the last 12 weeks of the season and our last week was last Sunday... wouldn't you know that I broke ( not one ball was within 6 inches of another ball on the table ) didn't make a ball and lost my perfect half cuz a below average player ran the rack on me!

So when the break is workin well the rest just gets a whole lot easier! Sometimes for the other guy!

Is this the cue you are talking about:

It looks just like the Kaiser jump/break cues, does it have a wood pin like that

Perfect guess, that's exactly the same cue I was talking about! I don't know what kind of joint has that fury got because I have only done a few break shots with it and then gave it back - and unfortunately the mood of the owner was not at its highest so I just didn't wanted to get his cue into pieces (but all the other cases I tend to get every cue apart and see its joint, etc.) So I can't guarantee that that fury has the same wood joint like on the picture but my guess is that it has a simple joint - 5/14×16 or something like that (just guessing though!)

Just so you don't think I am picking on your posts TSUGUY, the following is a cut and past from a posting I made on this subject from before you were a member of this forum.

The only time that the break is the most important shot is when you are breaking. The shot that is the most important is the one you are shooting now! It's not the previous shot, that’s history. It's not the next shot, or even the money ball shot. That's the future, you may not get there. Especially if you don't treat the current shot as the most important shot.

At least that is my opinion on the most important shot.

Ok So I agree... THE most important shot is the one in front of you because a lot of run outs have been blown by treating a shot as "less" important...

However I do have to say that the break sets the tone for the rest of the run. A good spread of balls off the break makes your chances of getting a good run. A poor spread or a CB frozen on another ball just starts the rack off rough. I don't know how many times a day I see someone just keep digging and shooting harder and harder shots because they just didn't get a good start off the break.

I don't think you are picking on me. I am always welcome to the objective ideas of other forum members. It makes us all more diverse and (I hope) better players!

I agree that all shots are important, but a good break will give you an easier out, so being able to perform a consistent good break will make the game simpler and eaier and will be a big advantage.

I always like to quote Timothy White ("The Australian Oyster")

The majority of pool players say that the break is the most important shot…not true! The ability to understand the most important shot, "the stop shot", and to incorporate this knowledge into your break is the key.

Great points from all of you... I agree all of you but on the other hand I'm at odds with both of you... I can't explain it...
Anyways, I find the best philosophy belongs to White.

Sold it!!!!

After two sessions with it I can say that I didn't like it, the hit was much less solid then the Schon and it vibrates more (maybe tsuguy would have liked it...) and although I liked it's weight I didn't like it's balance point (20.5 inches from the butt)
I also don't like the 13.25 mm tip diameter and although my Predator shaft and the ob-1 fit it perfectly, I still did not like it's balance and hit....

Well at least I didn't loose any money on it.... I sold it with a brand new J&J jump/break cue and a 10 years old (but in good shape) Porper 2x2 case for $400....

Your right! Sounds right up my alley :!: I even like a cue with a more forward balance point as was the case with this one... Darn, another missed opportunity!

Glad to hear you got what you had into it back though.
