I don't know which burnisher you have but I use a Porper myself. I wet the sides of the tip slightly, then place the burnisher over the tip. I twist the burnisher in a clockwise direction (direction doesn't matter I guess) applying just a little downward pressure in the process. I do this until the side of the tip is dry, or almost dry. It seem to do a nice job as far as I'm concerned.

I use a similar trick but one step farther... I take a leather wipe ( made for furniture ) and squeeze a drop or two if the moistening compound out of the wipe onto my finger tip. Then I apply this moisture to the inside edge of my Ultimate tip tool and burnish until seemingly dry. Only takes about 10-20 seconds... It keeps the "feel" of the tip nice and soft... and that's hard to do with an Everest tip! As they get worn in their hit tends to get harder and harder!
Those burnishers are bad for the shaft's ferrule because of it's conical shape... just apply some spit to the side of the tip and use a piece of leather or a paper towel to burnish the tip.
skor is right ... and if not a piece of leather, a one dollar bill will do the job.

Spit and the inside of a matchbook cover is what I did for a lot of years.

The dollar bill trick is what I do. Works great for me.
