I am currently having a custom cue made by Tim Prince (Illinois, USA). I need to make a decision on the thickness of the shaft. Personal preference aside, is there performance benefits to a 12 mm, 12.25 mm, 12.5 mm or 12.75 shafts vs. a 13mm shaft? For arguments sake lets say they all have the same taper and tip.
the thinner the shaft, the lighter the shaft, especially at the tip, which means less cue ball deflection (squirt).
a thinner shaft = smaller tip diameter = more accuracy and more spin with less effort

thats true. the thinner the shaft, the more accurate it is but you MUST have a steady stroke to take advantage of the thin shaft. i would suggest going with a 12.5mm diameter.

Tim Prince makes some very nice cues. I actually shoot on a league team with him Thursday nights. Once I hit with one of his cues I placed an order for one as well.
I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

Yes, probably the 12.5 is the way to go - as any thinner would make a little difficult using closed bridge and this diameter forgives and makes spin just as much as you'd need.. Eventhough my shaft is 12.75, I've played with an old 314 at about 12.5 or 12.6 (I can't remember what diameter we measured :-().
Good luck with your new custom!

i just placed on order for a schon cx37 with a predator shaft turned down to 12.50 extended to 30 inches. 12.5 is the right diameter for me. i hoep the schon will play as well as i been reading in forums.

Congratulations, nice choice - that grey stained maple should look nice in reality!
