View Full Version : Stinger Jump/Break cue review
I got to use the stinger for the last week (a friend got one) and I wanted to share my thoughts about it (if you don't mind....)
Breaking - I've only used it to break 9ball racks, I've tried different speed to see how it performs.
I think that it breaks just as well as any other Phenolic tiped (or tip-ferrule combo) cue.
Jumping - It jumps very well, similar to the Jumster but if I compare it to the Mezz Air-Shooter then it gives less control.
I like - the taper of the shaft is longer and more flexible then most break cues, I like this type of taper beter, it gives me more control over the break which is not a bad idea with a phenolic tip.
I did not like -the diameter at the joint it's a bit too thin for me.
I also didn't like the fact that the finish covers the whole shaft.... (Is that his big secret for keeping the shaft clean????) it becomes sticky really fast and combine it with thr thin diameter at the joint and it feels like a Cuetec.....
Bottom line, I don't think that it's worth $400
:( :( too bad... I had high hopes for it.... :( :(

So what's next for you then since you did not like this combo?
I would have gone for the BK2 but I really want a combo cue (out of laziness of getting 3 cues out...)
I would love to put my hands on the x-breaker to try it out but it looks like I just might end up going custom...

hey thats true skor but this guy jerry is ready to do anything for you he has replaced my cue 2 times.
At the moment I'm leaning towards a Predator BK2 and get a cheap jump/break like the J&J for backup and for traveling..

I used a friends BK2 and it felt pretty solid. The only thing I didn't like was he had it weighing like 20 or 21 ozs... I like a real light break stick, I shoot with a 18.25 do I like my break cue to be around a 17.25... I don't have to explain why as I'm sure you know... the point of that is for me the BK2 would work because I don't think you can get it that light...
Compared to the J&J break cue... I could tell a slight difference, it seemed as though the CB bounced off the rack more than put the energy into it like the BK2 did. So I felt the BK2 was superior in performance just wasn't set up right for me at the time... now the jump portion of the J&J... that's a whole different story! I took my Lucasi jump cue out of my case and took the J&J apart and put THAT jump portion in my case... ( I don't use the whole cue to break anymore... kinda gave up on it :O ) the jump portion has a little more weight and a better balance than the Lucasi... it takes a lot less angle and power to "pop" the ball up. Since I swiched from the Lucasi to the J&J I've gotten a hundred times more accurate and consistant at jumps.(it's easy when you can concentrate more on your aim than having to worry about a perfect yet harder than normal stroke! )
I owned a BK1 but sold it because it was 20oz so I know what expect only the BK2 should be better....
I know the J&J jump/break cues very wel... and since I sold all my break cues and jump/break cues, I have been using for breaking a cheap cue that I got for free that I got a J&J break shaft for it (phenolic tip/ferrule)
I like lighter break cue, the best one I had was a Kaiser that was 17.5oz after I removed the weight bolt and by that I also got it a perfect balance but I sold that one as well...
The cue I've been using for the last few months is 19oz so the 18oz BK2 should feel great...
I would have gone custom but I don't feel spending too much on a break cue at the moment...

Somehow, I figured I wasn't telling you anything you didn't already know! One of these days though........ I'll find somethin' you might not be quite so knowledgable about!
The J&J is pretty darn good for the price though!

i have a 17.5 oz bk2 from seyberts, they can lighten it up for you if you ask. basically it's one with the weight bolt taken out, but how light they can get it depends on the stock at hand, the configs vary from cue to cue, even the ones that weigh the same. i got a 18oz. j&j and i took out the weight bolt in it to make it about 17oz. might not be something you can do with all j&j's though, i'm sure some have a lighter or no weight bolt.
the j&j is definitely the best value j/b cue i've run across. i do love the bk2 though, as pricey as it is. i have a pretty accurate break stroke, so i don't really see too much of a difference in performance, but it's nice to know that there is a tiny bit more forgiveness there.

I would give Seyberts a try... no guarantee they'll be able to get you one, but I would bet that if they can't they's be nice enough to tell you where you could get one at.
I purchased mine from an online auction site... it just so happened that after I bought it he sent me a message asking when I as picking it up? I asked him to ship it to me, and he said why??? you only live 20 miles from here! So I found a new billiards store that I didn't even know was in the area that way! lol! If you search the poplular online auction sites... you'll find them, cheap I might add.

I sent you a private message with a link... If this doesn't fit your fancy, then you might want to just Google it!
Of course contacting Seybert's first is always the best idea.... customer service is priceless!

Hey gang,
I was probably one of the first guys to get the new Stinger w/SS Shaftt from Rick and it is the best j/b I ever had. It will take time to get used to it and if for some reason your break is not working you can give a call to Jerry from Jerico Cues and he will tell you what to do. If you have a 100mph break, then this cue is not for you.
If you break dead square on the top ball at a medium speed, that is all you need, but every break is different from player to player. Also I am starting to jump now and this cue jumps without an issue at all. I just sold my BK2 by the way.
