I have a standard 58" Viking cue, and while I like it, I feel I would play better with another couple of inches. I am 6'3" with long arms and legs, and sometimes I feel like I have to scrunch up a little more than what feels natural. The problem is that the only option that major manufacturers have for an extra long cue is a longer shaft. However, it seemed to me that adding length only to the shaft would throw off the balance of the cue. Does anyone have a longer cue or know anyone who does that can tell me if it indeed changes the balance of the cue? If that is the case, is my only option to get an expensive custom cue?

I'm not real sure about the longer shaft effecting the balance of the cue, you'll have to ask Skor about that one (he's the forum's technical adviser :D ). But the only option I can think of for you is a custom, which isn't a bad thing. You can get a no-frills custom in your specs, for about $300-$500. It's an investment and you'll definitely have something to be proud of. Be warned however, once you buy your first custom, there's a good chance you'll become addicted to them. Then your in trouble!

As standbykid said the custom cues prices take off from about 400-500 bucks.. and the limit is the sky.. What I do recommend for you is: check www.dzcues.com, http://bcmcue.com/ In these sites you can find pricelists which tell you do start-price which is the (almost always) ringless, inlay-free, wrapless (sometimes..) price of a custom. Starting from there, you may check the pricelist how much a ringwork costs, how much are the other inlays, the different wrap, etc.etc.etc..
I don't think that you should by custom (in YOUR particular case), because they - as you said - are too excpensive.
What you should try: check Mezz cues, they're nice, also play well and you can buy Extensions for (any) of them! Whenever you're in a position where you have to "scrunch up a little more than what feels natural" you just simply apply the extension and when you don't have to, than you dettach the ext. That's what I'd go for..
