Break in for new felt?

Is there are break-in time for new felt?
MIne seems a little slow.
But its brand new and not worn smooth like a lot of the ones I play at the pool hall.

Also....( potential dumb beginner question alert )

How can you tell if you got a good install?
I got my used brunswick table delivered thi sweekend.
Everything seems oK...but for lack of experience...im not sure how I should be checking and evaluating.
And Im mostly talking the cloth I guess.
How can I judge if its stretched and installed properly?
I had heard that it loosens over time?

What brand and type of felt did you have installed? If you had a knap cloth installed then it will be slower than the "smoother" cloth that you have seen in the pool halls. Those cloths are not necessarily worn smooth, they are manufactured by a different process.

Im sure its cheap cloth.
I know I should have looked into it more before they installed...but the guy should have also informed me about different kinds of cloth available.
I woudl have gladly spent a little more for good cloth.

Oh well...you learn as you go...now I have to decide how anal I want to be and if I want them to come over and install good cloth.
Whats an average price just for re-felt?

My cloth is a slower one. I wanted to change it, so I decided to play it out until it became worn. Well, four years later it has finally started to wear. It is still slow, but Simonis cloth here I come!

Its my own fault. I should have researched more...but the guy should have told me more options.
Im sure this will bug me enough to make me have someone come out and do new cloth.
It doesnt play that bad really...just slow.
Seems like the best option would be to actually put teh new cloth on in the summer more-humid months. Then when it gets more dry towards the fall/winter...the flet woudl actually tighten.

The good thing is you don't have to worry about jump shots/swerve shots and divots if your replacing your cloth. It might be a good opportunity to practice them if you plan to replace the cloth.

A friend of mine was quoted $400.00 for Simonis cloth on a 7' table. obviously the larger the table, the more the cost. But that should give you a good idea of what price range we are talking about.
