If you can find a Dufferin SP then I think it's the best cheap cue

Yep, if we're talking value, then the dufferin sneaky pete is tops. It plays really good with the standard (le pro) 12.5 mm tip, and the taper is nice too. As a bonus, this cue is the sneakiest of all sneaky petes - especially if your pool hall has dufferin house cues. I had to put some black electrical tape near the joint to prevent people from walking away with it at my pool hall.
The dufferin sneaky pete (a.k.a dufferin phantom) was my first cue. Many times when I asked for advice from the higher ranked players in my local 9-ball tournament, I was told straight up to buy a better cue. Of course, this advice was based on appearence alone. Once I became more serious about pool, I bought a really nice Falcon, and found to my surprise (and dismay) that the dufferin phantom played much better - less deflection, more spin, and god damn that wood to wood sounds and feels great. When I bought a 314^2 for my falcon I noticed that it played much, much better than the original shaft, but only marginally better than the phantom. When I look at the wood grains, I can see that the wood is darker and the rings tighter than on my falcon shaft, which apparently are characteristics that balabushka (and other good cue makers) look for when making a quality shaft. Don't get me wrong, the falcon has a very solid hit, great balance, looks great, and with the predator shaft is just awesome, but for $89.99 cdn. - you cant beat the value of the dufferin phantom.
Unfortunately, the good folks at F.G. Bradleys (the largest dufferin supplier at http://www.fgbradleys.com/index.asp) has informed that dufferin is no longer producing their cues canada. So if you want one, you better be quick.

dufferin was bought by cue and case awhile ago and they've moved production to china. the new cues i hear aren't as good as the old ones. don't know if some places have them still in stock or how'd you tell if it was a canadian or chinese. i bought a dufferin snooker cue not too long ago...i think it was made in china and was of poor quality. from seyberts you can get a fury or a lucasi sneaky pete for not too much and they are both pretty good.

Also Connoley Billiards Supply, the Place that Sell Tables mostly. Had some Private Label Cue (stamped Connley on the Butt) made by Dufferin.
Sure I spelled Connonley Wrong...Not sure if they are on the East Coast, also try Greg at Billiards Warehouse in NJ.

It may sound cliche, but i love my players. it hits great and has a great consistancy to it. i love it, and it was only 60 bucks. it was my first cue, and i still play whith it from time to time

Nothing wrong wqith a Player, as it is the Player, and not the Cue. did not Efrin for years play with a 15.00 BUCK Cue. that was no magic cue, it was the Magician who's hand the Cue was in....

I agree that players makes a good sneaky pete for the money.
I have owned about 5 different sneaky petes and one thing I have noticed (particularly with sneaky pete models) is that there is a good deal of variability even within the same name brand. With a lot of production cues, you can find duds and gems. And I had a $30 eliminator that hit amazing, on levels near my PS Pechauer and ZZ Mezz. So, if you can, try a few by hand.
