any opinions/reviews about dale perry cues?
My friend had one, the joint ring on the butt got loose and he had to sent it to Dale for repair, the cue got trashed while going through U.S customs... to a degree that acording to Dale is unrepairable...
It's not Dale's fault that the cue got trashed but if he would have built it right from the first place the whole incedent would have been avoided....
I would spend my money elsewhere...

I'm sorry that your friend had a bad experience with the DP cue, but I've had mine for over a year now and it's one of the best cues I've played with, no problems what so ever with it.

i dont see what the problem is...didnt ur friend insure it for the full amount. cuz if he did he'd just get his money back. if he didnt then i dunno what to say..u should always insure the cue. plus maybe the cue dale sent was damaged during shipping. then when ur friend started playing with it the joint ring got worse and worse until it came loose?
That's a lot of maybes....
I just think that the way Dale handled this issue just sucks...
I would rather give my business to people with better atitude

thats only 1 maybe...
but honestly he may or may not have messed up the ring which he was willing to fix. the shipping thing is an accident that no one had control over. i think it's understandable (as u so agreed) that if it's damaged beyond repair, there isnt much dale can do about it. in this situation, both parties made a mistake. dale screwed up the ring, and ur friend screwed up the packaging on the shipping. might sound harsh but if ur friend packed it the way seybert's packs their cues, i'm 100% sure nothing can actually happen to it unless some postal worker manually opens it, it's not expensive to pack it either. and maybe it's dales fault for screwing up the ring on the cue in the first place but understandbly, no product can be 100% error free. and judging by his reputation and his many satisfied customers i would say that the occurence of an error such as the one ur friend suffered is very very rare.
dont think i'm just talking trash cuz it didnt happen to me, i currently have a cue in transit that should have gotten here 2 weeks ago but still isnt here and no one seems to be able to locate it. also had another break in half before it reached me last year so i know ur friend must be mad but these things happen, which is why i hate dealing with mail.
My friend packaged it well, his wife works for DHL... and it was sent with DHL, it is known that the package got to the USA in good condition but the US customs opened it and I guess that that's what messed up the cue...
My point is: if the cue was constructed well to begin with then this whole thing could have been avoided. I understand that sometimes a construction error could occur but in this case the manufacturer should take care of his customers....
Since the cue was beyond repair and since it's the manufacturer fault to begin with then a compensation is in place, there was no request for a new free cue, but a new cue at 50% or at construction costs should be the resolution, Dale did not offer anything like that.... not even a small discount on a new cue...
Well my friend just said the hell with it and got a new Jacoby...
Look at how Predator take care of their customers!
ob cues are just as good, they sent me a new shaft after my shaft got warped, I didn't asked for it, I did told them that I'm not going to send the shaft back since the costs won't be worth it and they sent me a second shaft....

God, that's amazing customer service from ob! I'm amazed, it really sounds great. To be honest I can understand Predator's approach of the problem as it is a huge company and they wouldn't lose 1 to 10 customers (as I can hardly believe that Dale has lost more than that with dealing with that issue so badly that your friend had) but Pred would lose hundreds of them if they said that they won't recall their shafts... But OB is a way smaller company (correct me if I'm wrong) so it is even more commendable how they've stood behind their product.
Something else: I've read somewhere that Bill McDaniel has ended up with making cues, is that right, skor? Thanks for your help in advance.

skor - what u say is accurate, but i was thinking maybe dale had his reasons for not offering any compensation. perhaps he was not 100% sure that the problem was his fault as he does not know how ur friend uses the cue. so he asked for it to be return so he could analyze it, but when it got there it was already destroyed so maybe thats why he was hesitant to offer compensation. but then again, i'm only basing this on the info u've provided, so if there's something u know that i dont then that might change my assessment.
for the ob shaft...did u just email them and tell them it got warped and they sent u a new one without u ever having to send them ur warped one. do u have both shafts now? cuz i can see people taking advantage of this. or did u take a picture to show them first?
Dale did not ask for the cue to analize it, he said that he was sorry that have happened and asked my friend to send the cue for a free repair....
My friend knows how to use a cue, he is not a child... he even represented Israel in the last european 3-cushions championships as he was the Israeli champ. so he is no beginner...
As for the ob-1 issue, I have learned about that shaft on another forum and liked the idea of it so I ordered one, that was before they even started to market it and it was more a "mouth to ear" thing...
The shaft warped a bit, not too much in a way that if you roll it the tip will leave the table but it was still warped (it wasn't when I got it, I always check...) I was a bit disappointed with that although I am aware that it's wood and this could happen.... to blow some steam out I wrote on that other forum about it without thinking about it too much and the consequences of such post. I did not contacted OB since I wasn't even thinking about the options of fixing it or returning it, since the shipment is expansive, I just thought that I would take my loss and move on.
People at that forum got pissed at me for not contacting OB first before posting that story, AND they were right!!! I just wasn't thinking right...
Royce from OB sent me a PM asking me to contact him which I did.... I told him that I was very sorry for my post at the forum and I did apologized on the forum as well, he wanted me to send the shaft back because he wanted to see it, he said that he never had a shaft that warped.... I still looked on the whole issue as a "not big deal" it happens and let's move on and I didn't want to pay for shipment again... Royce told me that he want's to live up to the McDermott warranty (that was just published at that time) and he sent me a second shaft!!
so yes I do have both shafts (I have no use for the warped one, it just sitting in an old case in the closet) and I really hope that no one will try to take advantage of Royce goodness and kindness and great service...
I would like to add that I do not expect this kind of a service or compensation from any one and not just in the billiards industry, but I would expect from manufacturers to stand behind their product and offer the best service possible or at least try to work out a resolution that is accepted on both sides.
To me, Dale's atitude sounded a bit like "sorry for your cue, can't do nothing about it now f#$^%ck off..."
and you what really piss me the most... that I considered in the past to get a cue from him and I liked some of his work and I'm the one that suggested to my friend to get a Dale Perry cue....

I think I can understand what you mean to say about Dale's attitude. Eventhough I have never talked to him but I know the feeling when I feel that someone says he is sorry but in the inside he thinks "ahh god, why don't you just leave me alone and $ߤ& off?" And I hate that because I have already met with those kind of men...

I love my Dale Perry and haven't had any problems with it. Hits like no other. Construction of the cue is very nice and would definitely buy another. I got mine for about $2000.00 and will buy more from Dale Perry Cues.

Had mine about a year so far , the shaft felt a little funky so its got a 314 2 and a sniper on it now , it feels as good as about anything I've played with , turns alot of heads also but I dont tell them it was a 200 dollar Ebay special.
