View Full Version : mens pool leagues

Sirs: I play in a men's pool league in Chico Ca. 1 bar owner insists that mens pool leagues only use 4x8 coin op tables, throughout the Contry. My position is that each bar owner designate what table will be used as their league table, and that all sizes should be legal for use.
Next have heard that on the break, the cue ball must strike either the head ball or the 2nd in line on either side of the rack. I can not verify this. by hitting the 3rd ball it is pretty easy to sink the 8 ball and win.
would like to hear comments. thank you, toml300@hotmail.com

Ive always heard of just missing the head ball and catching the 2nd ball to go in but never the third. do you use the same english as if you were hitting the 2nd ball?

As far as your question I think if a bar didn't have a regulation size table comprable to the other bar tables in the league he couldn't participate. I happen to also play on a league and i know our table is a 3.5 X 7. same as all the other bars in our league. Basicly it depends on the rules in that specific league. I would say i agree with you the pool league rules are NOT universal

All our tables around here are 3.5 X 7 footers. I know a lot of guys that will hit the second ball in an 8 ball rack..at a tourney last year I saw several hitting the third ball when breaking. In talking to them most said if they feel it is a loose rack they will shoot for the thrid ball. Not sure of the validity of it because I break head on and have never tried it.
