Hi all,
I have a Predator 5k1, play about from 1 to 4 nights a week for around 2 hours in a session... I bought the seybert's Q clean kit, how often should I clean my cue?
I keep it in an instroke case if that changes how often I should clean it.
Any help is appreciated! :)
If the tables you play on are clean and you keep your hands clean then once a month or once every 6 weeks will be enough.
Those products work quite well but I wouldn't recommend on usinf them too often, keep your hand clean and wipe the shaft with a clean cloth a couple of times during play and with a dump cloth following with a dry cloth after every session and you will be just fine...

Yes, just water...
You can also use H2O in place of water...

i thought your not suppose to touch the shaft with water??? just isopropyl alcohol.... :?
Damp (adjective)
1. slightly wet; moist: damp weather; a damp towel.
Do not soak it in water...

I tell ppl to avoid water all together because I just know the first time I tell someone to just use a damp towel or something they'll just soak the thing and screw themselves outta $200 :!:

i like a magic eraser with rubbing alcohol, cleans really well and rubbing alcohol does not raise the grain as much as water
I've used a damp cloth on my first 314 shaft for 8 years and it was in great shape when I sold it... unless Predator changed the glue they use, I don't see any problems with wiping the shaft with a damp cloth and then burnish it with a dry cloth.
I've tryed Pledge as Neil offered and does make the shaft nice and smooth but it does not clean shaft that well...

You can also use H2O in place of water...
And if you have troubles finding water or H2O hydrogen dioxide will work just as well.
As for all those other shaft cleaners out there they are all hydrocarbon based solvents which will break down the fibers of wood faster than water as well as being harder on the glues in laminated shafts as well. What does this mean in the real word? If you use these chemicals sparingly and rarely probably nothing. As for myself I use paint thinner to clean a shaft. I can get a gallon for what some players pay for a 2 oz bottle of the other stuff. Is it over kill? Not with Mrs. Dags always having painting projects around the house!
I've tried furniture polish (pledge) alongwith different waxes and other shaft conditioners and I still like a clean dry shaft, wiped down occasionaly with a slighty damp towel, condintioned only with the natural patina that builds up from the oils in my hands. I do use plain old minwax, but only to protect shafts that I do not use.

I use pledge for my shaft and it works great, firmly but perfectly removes all the dirt from the shaft - but after using the pledge I use a dry and soft towel too.
