I'm looking for a tool that sands the top of ferrules. Tweeten's Rapid Cue Top Sander looks like it would do a good job of keeping the ferrule flat and level, but I'm worried about clamping it to my shaft. Are there any other tools that do a good job sanding ferrules?

Lou~~just messed up the top of his ferrule using a sanding block.

I wrap my cue/ferrule with a matchbook cover prior to clamping the Tweeten tool to it. This protects the shaft from scratches and dents caused by the metal tool.

Good idea kokopuffs, I just put duct tape around the inside of the tool to protect the shaft. The tweeton rapid cue top sander is the best tool for the job.

I thought of that too, but I wasn't sure how well it would work. If it works for you guys, I'll try it. Thanks for your advice.

Do you think the Willard tip and cutter tool is overkill for someone changing his own tips at home?

If you have just a cue or two and they are worth a little money, I would just have it done professionally. It is just easier and you don't have to worry about screwing up something. But if you are doing a quite a few for your friends and others, it is a good investment. But practice on a lot of bar cues first to get everything down before going on to your favorite cue.

I use a piece of felt on the inside of the clamp
