Hey guys, asking for your opinion on the best break cue (2 peice) under $150 and best cue under $275..

I'm looking into the Viking F71, F85, or F89 for my main cue. Could someone help me out? What tips would you recommend for both the break cue and playing cue?

Thanks for your help..

BEST BREAK CUE - check this link http://www.seyberts.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3142

Fury J/B cue will also cost less then $150 and it looks nicer but I like the above cue better
http://www.seyberts.com/pool_cues/series.php?series_id=85

as for a playing cue, if you could stretch a bit then I would go for a Predator sneaky petev that is sold here at seyberts for $284

Or you go for a Viking (F69 - F111 are all with in your budget)

As for tips, I would go with a layered tip with medium hardness for the playing cue (talisman or moori)

the Break cues that I was reffering to are actually break/jump cues - you get 2 for 1 8) and they both have phenolic tips
if you don't like the phenolic tip and don't want a J/B combo cue then you should consider any cue (go for a light weight with a wood to wood joint) and get a very hard leather tip, like a water buffalo hard tip from talisman.

Thanks skor for your help.

If I get a new tip put on, would I need anything else other than the cue cube?

Thanks,

Moori and Talisman tips hardly mushroom so if you get one of these then the cue cube will be all you need

For your budget I'd get the Fury J/B as my break cue, and if you could stretch your playing cue budget alittle, I'd get the Predator sneaky pete.

I'd also get Moori or Talisman tips.

(Basically I just agreed with everything Skor suggested!)

You should try a phonelic tipped break cue and a Predator shaft before you buy them. You might not like it.

Thanks guys for your help. I've now changed my mind and I'm going with the Predator sneaky pete with the sniper tip, I think.. And the fury as my break cue.

Does anyone know if seyberts will install the tips? I'm not too handy, and would rather pay someone a few bucks to install it.

Thanks!

Z-shaft or 314? And what are joint protectors? Are they needed?

Thanks!

I like the 314 better, but I'm very used to it.
In your case, since it sounds like your new to the world of billiard I might suggest that you go for the Z shaft from the start and get used to it.
Joint protectors are just that... they protect the joint 8) and I would suggest that you get them, especially for the uni-loc joint that is very accurate and therefore they are very sensitive to dirt (it may get stuck)

Dirt doesn't actually get the cue stuck together, brass or metal shavings do. When in the machining process metal debris gets lodged in the insert it may cause the joint to lock up. If cleaned properly before delivery there should be no issues, but some cues were released like that before we understood what was happening.

Dirt will cause the cue to go together and come apart sluggishly, but it shouldn't lock it up. Either way Skor is right, joint protectors are a good idea as well as cleaning the joint with a Q-tip and alcohol periodically.

If your thinking the sniper tip you will probably like it if you like a harder tip. I have just been sold on sniper tips. I like that it holds it shape doesn't mushroom, and it holds chalk really well. The only time I have shaped it was the original shapping to get it like I like it. Yes Seybert's will put it on for you too!
