I'm thinking of getting a Joss cue...does anyone have any opinions on them?

Do you own one? Have you played with one?

What do you think of the play of the cue? What do you think of the quality of the craftsmanship?

I currently have a Pechauer and a Pechauer with a 314 shaft and am curious how these would compare to a Joss cue.

Thanks.

The craftsmanship of a Joss is first rate although (personal opinion) I think their designs are kind of lame. As to comparing it to your Pechauer/314 combo there will be a huge difference. The Joss wit its shorter taper and thick shaft will give a great feel for what is happening with the cue ball. It is a great cue for the player that places a premium on feel and precision speed control.

However if you are the type of player that feels the need to juice the cue ball then stick with your Pechauer/314 combo.

This is not to say that any one is better than the other. It is just a matter of personal playing style. For me (I have a Joss, a 314 on a Jackson and on a Schon as well as many others) I would take the Joss over the 314 hands down. And for that matter, I would take a stock Schon over the Joss as well.

Played with friends Joss + P314 combo a couple of times. It's a good cue but I prefer my Schon + P314 in every segment: hit balance, fit&finish.
Never tried Pechauer though.
All the above is just my opinion.

Thanks, I think I'll buy a Joss, I've deserved it. I'm not getting a 314 on it though, b/c I don't think it makes much of a difference in my game.

Not trying to do business on some other guy's forum and all, but I actually won a joss at a tournament and was about to let it go on ebay sometime in a few weeks. Again not to use Seyberts forum for my personal gain, but I'd give a good discount on it since I don't have any use for it. Let me know what you're looking for and your price range or PM / email me.

If your used to a predator shaft you won't like a Joss. Joss shoot like a coat hanger. Meaning there is no flex to them so they hit really stiff. Do some checking you will find out all websites refering to Joss play will say they are very stiff and that most people prefer McDermott, Meucci, and Predator over a Joss.

Good to know about Joss' very stiff hit...what's a "soft" hitting cue?

B/c at my level of play, control is far more important than speed.

I feel the Muecci is one of the softest, and some of the reading I have done backs this. McDermott and Vicking are in the medium range. Try this website and just read what they say about the hitting quailities of each brand. The website is www.cuestix.com I think that Seybert's has better deals on pricing though.

Control and speed are inexorably linked to one another. There is no control without good speed control as well. If you can get proper position with correct speed and the right angle then the use of english becomes less important. Maybe "important" isn't the right word, but anytime you can get natural shape without having to juice up the cb you will be better off.

Uhh, I'm no expert, but how does the butt of any cue affect the stiffness of the stick as a whole...? I play 314 on Joss and am very happy with the combination. You know, applied science meets the Color of Money. Maybe Predator shafts are a little overrated, but only a poor sport blames the arrow and not the archer...heh heh heh

He wasn't asking about putting a 314 on a joss, he was talking how a joss by itself hits. If you don't have a different shaft on a joss it hits very stiff. He just wanted to know what they felt like. Of course if you put a 314 shaft on it then it will hit like a predator.

Funny, it never occured to me to spend much time learning to play with the stock shaft; a buddy of mine talked Predator up so much, I was convinced I needed one- the Ralf Souquet approach from the get go. I only had a fiberglass Eliminator at the time and really wanted a Joss for many reasons. Equipping my Joss with a 314, to me, was eliminating the final variable, pardon the pun...!

Well a lot of people in here share you opinion on predator shafts. You will see a lot of postings on predator shafts and also the ob-1 shaft.
