I would be interested in knowing what type and style of cases the members prefer? Which is best for protection and storage?

The hard box or the "Porper" style?

And what about the inside, hard tube or the soft nylon material?

I have been satisfied with my Guiseppe. Others who own Instroke seem to like them. I plan to buy an Instroke Cowboy in the near future.

I have a $90.00 Instroke Cowboy knockoff clone in 4/6 configuration with a jump pocket and it does me fine.

OTOH I don't have a $1,000.00 cue inside either. If Idid I would probably upgrade.

The real Cowboys and Talismans are a good value for what they cost IMHO if you have a stick worth a fortune.

I carry a $200 Viking F102 a $200 w/314 and the stock shaft made into a break shaft, a $200 used Predator SPJU (actually it's not even here yet), a $55, a $50 Viper backup shooting cue and a $50 backup Viper break cue.

$755 if everything gets destroyed.

When choosing a case you should really understand your needs, if you just need something that will hold your cue from your home to your car and to the pool hall and then back, then a simple case might be fine, if you're planing to travel with it, then you might want to get something more protective, the number of butts and shafts are also a factor that you need to take into consideration. The value of your cues is another thing, if you have a $100 cue then there is no need to get a $400 case for it, but if you got a valuable cue (like your new Schon) then I would go the extra mile and get a nice and protective case.
I just got the new Talisman 3x5 case and it is a great case, Instroke also have good cases and the premier line will protect your cue just like the more expansive cases.

Speaking of the Schon, I got it today, and it is gorgeous. :)

I did forget to mention the Great Schmelke which is perfect for a quick run to the pool hall witha 1/2 plus a couple of widgets.

And Skor make s agreat point if you travel with cues.

I've got a 1x2 Schmelke hard case to use back and forth to play, and I just ordered a 3x6 Giuseppe for storage at the house.

I also have a Meucci SE4 with 3 shafts (one blackdot) so I'm set unless I find another stick that I just "can't live without"

Is this how collections start?

The Schon came with the original shaft and a 314.

I have, and absolutely love, my Giuseppe 2x3 case. If I were to get another case, it would probably be a custom, and the only reason would be for it to be a custom.

My Giuseppe just serves me perfectly. Some people may not like that it's puch will not really hold a jump cue's butt, but I don't use a jump cue for jumping. I use my break cue.

Leather (or initation leather) tube cases look very nice and offer a lot of protection for your cues. But unless you plan on runing over your case with a car a soft case will offer all the protection you should ever need. But if you have an expensive cue and you wan't to be a bit more certain about protecting your investment a tube case is a better way to go. Of course if you are really serious about protecting your cue then get a zero haliburton case. There is no better protection to be had for your cue and the best part is is that they are priced on par with the better tube cases such as the instroke cowboy and the talisman and less than a custom. If you are willing to give up the fancy leather the choice is really a no brainer.

That's one outrageous case.
