Although this question seems stupid BUT what is THE real purpose of a JOINT PROTECTOR??? I don't really see that a "JOINT PROTECTOR" can really protect a joint or some people said it keeps the moisture out from the cue?
What's good joint protector besides just for the beauty ESPECIALLY if you have a hard case?
What do all of you think about this?
Thank's

Every time I clean my shaft (only) I make sure to have the JP cuz if i accidentally drop my shaft i don't wanna chip my shaft's collar. GOT IT? As for moisture I don't care i jsut don't wanna chip the collar.
Now if you drop your shaft w/o the JP then that's STUPID. LOL
I have joint protectors for all my cues. I also have a pair of golf shoes that they made me wear in high school on the golf team.
Ok, I don't use any of them.... I'm I right? ...Am I wrong?. No clue. What I am is Lazy. Don' like the extra time it takes for either. (I also don't use a break cue either.)
Will the joint protectors protect the shaft and butt from absorbing more moisture, sure. The moisture is absorbed through the end grain of a shaft or butt. A joint protector cures that.
As for protecting the collar from chips... guaranteed, 100%. If you have a joint protector on your shaft and drop it on the floor, it will prevent the collar from chipping. :?: How many times are you fortunate enough to drop it when the protector is in place??? Once the protector is on, and then it goes directly into your case. Very small Percentage. The cleaning of the shaft however is a good point.
I have seen only one or two shafts dropped on the floor accidentally straight out. I have however seen quite a few shafts, butts, protectors, pops, beers, cigarettes, car keys, girlfriends, dropped on the floor while the owner was fiddling with the joint protector trying to put it on the shaft or butt.
Hell of a salesman ain't I???
Will I buy a set of protectors for any cue I might get in the future? Yea, probably. Don't know why but they do go with the cue - set. I know there are more people that believe in them than they are lazy people like me. And it is cool when winning a match to gather up you equipment, taking proper care of it, joint protectors included and melding into the crowd. But, if I lose...The melding into the crowd is more important than the protectors

Well if you do dropped the shaft with JP, it will only protect the joint but it doesn't really protect the shaft!!! The shaft will get ding and also if you have a nice JP from an EXOTIC wood, you might be more carefull and afraid if the JP will get ding if you dropped it.
But it's nice to have a JP though, especially the EXotic wood one.
SO??? Thank's

Dings and dents can be fix BUT with a chip collar might as well throw it in the garbage. There!

hmm, good point!!! Thank's
Joint protectors keep dust, dirt, lint, etc. from getting on your point pin and the threads in your shaft. If particles accumulate in the joint threads, it could effect the way the joints "seats." If it's a 3/8 x 10 joint, the dirt could start to wear at the wood threads. Or so I hear.
