Are these cues designed by a 16 year old with the aesthetic sensibilities of an AC/DC fan?

They're the worst looking cues I've ever seen.

Please tell me I'm not hallucinating.

I must agree, a lot of their new designs are so ugly that you'd think that they were doing that intentionally so that no one copies them. :?

Then don't buy one, then they will change, I know I won't.

What's wrong with AC/DC fans? Have you ever heard Back In Black? Anyway, I have to say that McDermott does have some ugly designs. However, they also have some great looking ones. I have a McDermott Cue (Prestige Series M8-P1) and it is fantastic.

Well, I have an M1-1A 'Warden' and it just looks astonishing! I have to admit though, that many of their new cues just look pretty ugly to me. And what's even more frustrating is that those 'notsonicelooking' cues are close or even more expensive than 500 bucks.. I like the older cues, such as 'The Shadow' or (my favorite) the 'Navigator II'.
I love my McD. at all!!!

I have a M2-9C Sexton and while not the most valueable cue I own it may be, in my opinion, the best looking in my collection.

I think that once you get into the cues with inlays, then McDermott cues are as good asthetically as alot of other mid level production cues. I personally can't stand the graphics cues. Not to say there is anything wrong with them from a quality stand point. They just look cheap. Almost like something an 8 year old would want to play with. IMO

I agree. But then we're back the point where we started from. As brother#1 said: "Are these cues designed by a 16 year old with the aesthetic sensibilities of an AC/DC fan?" I think that he was talking about those graphic cues from McDermott - with icewolves and knights and all those ridicolous stuff on it. 95% of the inlayed cues has selective design - just take a look at the Navigator II... It's just amazing. And that's only one of the many-many beautiful cues..

To each his own. There must be a market for it, else they would probably not be producing them. Neither would Viking, as they have a similiar line of goofy looking graphics.

I believe that the cue makers have gone to great lengths to analyze demographics; and, sub-culture preferences have quite a lot to do with the various "styles" of product that get produced. There is a sub-culture that likes graphics on cues. I don't intend to offend when I say, "Perhaps it is the 16 y/o AC/DC fan sub-culture that likes them and buys them."
Audo hit the nail on the head. There is a market for it. I personally do not like graphics-type cues; but, that does not mean they should not be produced and sold. Obviously, some folks like them and buy them.
Case in point: I am not fond of points with multi-color veneers. Despite MY personal preferrences, producers of production line and custom cues, continue to build and sell them. I absolutely love the McDermott Sedona (Elite Series), McDermott Arizona (Tournament Series) and the Viking F02. I also like almost any cue with turquoise in it.
I'd love to see someone win the International Challenge of Champions with a graphics cue!!! 8O

I happen to feel that the McD. wrap-less BridgePort is one of the most beautiful production cues ever built, although I'd definitely change the joint. The choice of inlay mtrls. is superb as they contrast the cocobola cue body extremely well. IMO. Their placement creates a visually pleasing flow of design. But I'd still change the joint.

Apparently you guys have not seen the Navigator II or the Knight or the Envy or the Sedona. (These are some of the most beautiful cues I have ever seen for any price) Geesh theres too many to name not to mention they are made in the USA and have the best guarantee in the industry and they really do stand behind their product (not like others who just talk about it) Sorry just thought I'd put my 2 cents in

Hello Everyone. New member here. A mass production co must try and accommodate many a taste. McD is no exception. Some of their designs are ugly, I agree. However, some are rather gorgeous. I own the M6-k 1. My first cue. To me is more than a great looking cue. Simple, clean, beautiful. See, I don't like intrigate designs and fancy wraps. I love the beauty of finely finished wood. I wish the beautiful Ziricotte and bubinga were sealed and finished in somekind of flat finish to allow even more of the grain of the wood to show through. To others it may be rather ugly, who knows? Anyhow, the point is diferent strokes for diferent folks. Another thing I would say, is this: When it comes to Customer Service, Mcdermott wins hands down. Speaking from experience.

Mcdermott, by my personal oppinion has best cue design. I love their classic look. I have Mcdermott M3-3C model so called Twilight for about 2 years and every time I look at it I am too happy that I bought it. Lucky, the store where I bought my Mcdermott became an official dealer for that brand here in Croatia, and now I attend to buy jump/break cue, still looking for the best fit :).
