I want to buy a Schon cue, I hear so many good things about them. I really like the styling of them. From what I have seen, a lot of pros use them as well as league players. I know the cue doesn't make the player, but smart players will typically own well made cues generally speaking. The Legend 314 Pechauer P-2 caught my eye as well, so give me a comparison between them and tell me the advantages/disadvantages of each. I know what I think of them, but am just looking to get some other ideas and opinions. Thanks.

i know im gona hear this but i dont think newer schons are a good buy. if you look at the points and inlays, they are rounded, not sharp. that is because they were cut with a cnc machine. while it dosent affect playability for what they cost you would think you are getting the best craftmanship. for that much money you can get a not too plain not too fancy custom cue made your specs. (joint, weight, balance, wrap). i ordered a cue from bob dzuricky and his prices are great. nice guy too. you should send him an email. if you dont wana go that route i would get the legend simply because it has a 314 on it.

That's not really an option because of $$$. If only Schon would get with the Legend 314 idea..... :?

the rings on the schon cues are not phenolic. they are all metal which results in kind of a "tinny" hit.

That's a bunch of bullroar. A bazillion other cuemakers use metal rings in there cues and they don't have "tinny hits" including Schons.......

I'm not sure how metal rings could result in a "tin" sounding hit. Is it like a "ting" sound? Most cues have metal rings in them. They are pretty much just like "washers".

why you respond so rudely i dont know. they dont sound differently they just hit very firm. a very firm stiff hit. some cuemakers make their cues standard with metal collars. rick phillipe comes to mind.

I prefer a firm hit. My Viking has a metal collar. The shaft has implex. It is metal to implex. This provides for a firmer hit.

The hardest hit AFAIK is something like the Viking #3, the double-threaded steel joint.

Sorry I came across a little rude there, spartan. It's just that the ring work in cues plays no more a role than cosmetics.......along with all inlays.......

its okay showboat. i have shot with many cues with metal collars. they have a little firmer hit. especially on finesse shots. sorry if i overreacted. its nothing big but on soft shots its a little firm. but alot of players like the hit of schon. its kind of unique.
metal rings or any rings for that matter means that the cue is constructed from more parts, as the number of parts rises so does the stiffness of the cue.

I have bought and sold about 20 different cues in the past year, just to try them out and see for myself what I like best. I must say that the Schon SP cue I have now is the best cue I've ever owned. I have spent anywhere from $100 - $1400. I like my Joss sneaky pete 2nd best only to my Schon SP.

There are certain other cue sites on the net that offer a 314 upgrade for a Schon cue for under a 100 bucks..
