I just purchased my first good cue (schon LTD1033) not to long ago. I want to make sure that I keep this cue as good in shape as possible for as long as I can. My question is there something that I should use to protect the finish on the shaft for my cue. I noticed that after playing with it a couple of time that it seems that where is rides along your bridge hand that the outer finshed is not like it is closer to the joint. It that normal? The cue that had for many many years is pretty much the same way but I never really payed any attention to it nor did any up keep on it either. I was Just wondering what everyone else does to pertect there favorite cue from wear and tear.

Oh and I love this cue. I believe that it was worth it and I have no regrets for getting it.

If you want to keep the cue in as good as shape as possible for the longest time then I would suggest not playing with it.

If you don't want to go that route then the next best thing, assuming you are taking precautions to keep th cue from bouncing on the floor, is to play with clean hands. Wash you hands before playing and often while playing. Don't drink your beer or eat with your bridge hand. Clean, dry hands will give you a great feel for the cue and keep the gunk from building up on the shaft.

Over time the oils from your hands will be absorbed in to the shaft and condition the wood. This may cause a some discoloring of the shaft but it is nothing to worry about and may even be good for the wood.

Thank you for the advise.

Not playing with it is not an option for me. I like the cue way to much to leave it in a case. I have already kept my self from drinking anything with my bridge hand so at least it seems that I am doing pretty much what I need to do as far as that goes.

As far as cleaners and conditioner that people sell. Are these things that I should stay away from and just make sure that I wipe the cue off at the end of the night. Do you have any recomendations on any of these products that you may have used in the past or still use.

Thanks again

Take your shaft to someone who does tips in your area and ask them if they can put a sealer on it. This will help making it easier to clean and gives the conditioning of it a head start......
