View Full Version : To tip or not to tip
I have been puzzled these last few days. I sell sticks and supplies etc. I also like to re-tip my own sticks. However, lately it seems the darn things just won't stay on. I use Porper's Little Shaver and the Ultimate Tip Tool, but alas, I think that the upward pressure pops the tips off. I used a rapid cue top sander to face the ferrule, so that shouldn't be a problem. I also sand the bottom of the tips to let them stick better. I was thinking of buying the Willard Tipper Trimmer, and I could get it at wholesale, but is it worth the $ to pay for it? Or should I just pay someone else and refer everyone to that person? Help please!
The one thing you didn't mention is the glue you have been using. The one glue that I keep hearing is the only one that is consistintly good is, Duro Super Glue Gel.
Hope this helps
Yes the Duro Super glue gel is the thing to use, but I just received in some industrial strength glue called Sure Lock. Since we have been using this glue we have not had a tip pop off and it only cost $7.95 for a large bottle.

hey guys! at present, i'm re-tipping on of my cues. i got curious after researching the use of gel super glue. i can't find any Duro here so i settled for Loctite Quicktite Gel. will this do? well, i'll find out tomorrow. wish me luck! :)

here's an update!
well, the tip hasn't fallen off :D i tried stroking the cue against the wall real hard (the type of stroke you would put on a hard break). there were no strange sounds or anything so everything seems to be fine. i'll be heading over to the pool hall now.
If the glue you use takes over 5 minutes to dry then it will never dry. We use the duro quick gel and the Sure Lock tip glue. After I apply the glue it literaly only takes 10 seconds and it is ready to cut.

it was ok in about 10 seconds. i pressed the tip for around 5 minutes just to be sure the adhesive dries in the right places
