I played a team tournament one time with a player that had a Cognoscenti. I had the opprtunity to shoot quite a few racks with that cue and my short term impression was that it was the best cue I had ever tried. Naturaly these cues don't come cheap.

Does anybody make a window cue anymore? Not that I think it would a cue play better, it's just a classy look IMO. I mean like the old Palmers and Vikings, and I think Paradice as well.

Tad made a couple like that also, there is one in his shop that was made for Balsis or someone in that era.

I have always thought Viking might go back to it someday. Not on the whole line, but on 1 or 2 of the higher end cues.

The best cue is the cue that you like the best. It could be any cue. It's all a matter of personal preference.

For his brother man?

I'm a low ranked amateur w/ years of practice time, but not exactly quality time. I've been shooting McDermott for while and love the solid, one piece feel, very solid. I recently bought a Schon, CX-37. Could not get comfortable w/ the 2-piece feel or ting sound.

Problem is: not always easy to run across the cue you'd like to "test drive" w/out buying it first.

I would like to step up to a good cue w/ solid feel that would take me further. The Schon felt "hollow". Someone told me the CX series had very different hit than STL or LTD. Then there's Predator and J. Pechauer Custom Cues. You don't just run across these every day and not easy to get "test drive".

So, my question is: Aside of sticking w/ McDermott, Can I step up to a quality custom cue that'll give me that "extension of my arm" feel that i've come to embrace?

I'd always been told: wood-to-wood joints, center, give a solid continuity from butt to tip.???

There has been a lot of praise about Predator shafts. "use any butt w/ predator shaft and you'll have a great cue"???????????????

My question: How much role does the joint play: hollow stainless, stainless w/ wood-2-wood contact, etc?????????????????

I've played w/ McD for many years, and like the solid "one piece" feel. I bought a Schon CX-37 w/ Predator 314 shaft....did not like so much. Was it the shaft? Was it the Schon CX series, (someone mentioned)? Was it the Stainless joint, hollow in middle???

Not easy to get hands on nice custom cues to try out and don't want to spend a fortune and forever to buy each cue to try out.

Can someone help???

Try a Mike Bender or a Mike Capone, expensive, but some of the best hitting cues in the world. IMO
