I have a Pechauer JP3, thinking of getting a Schon STL1 or 2. Is there really much of a difference between the two?

Quality of materials and workmanship is superb with both companies. The Schon has a stronger taper, which will give stiffer (firmer, harder) hit than the Pechauer. Whether that is good or bad depends on your personal preferences.
