Doesn't sound like something worth getting out of the house for.

yeah it dosent sound like much. i go to a weekly 9 ball tournament and it is $25.00 entry fee, payes 5 places, double elimination race to 5 on the winners side race to 4 on the losers side we usually have 20-25 people. amount of winnings depends on how many players are there. usually $175 is for first. i wouldnt waste $10.00 on a race to 2. anything can happen imo not worth it.

Anyone getting in this tourney must be a freeking moron. Takes in $320 with a $200 prize fund. That's a payout of only 62%. With a screwing like that I hope the promoter is decent enough to supply the KY Jelly.

Wow, many of you took this whole thing wrong.
First, living in this small community, (we don't even have a stoplight) no one is going to pay $25.00 entry. It's hard to get them to pay the $10.00. And I said "limited" so that people would pre-register. Two weeks ago I had an 8 ball singles with a $200.00 purse $10.00 entry. I had 15 shooters, gave away the purse plus over $100.00 in door prizes. Now who got the screwing. That money came straight out of my pocket. I can't raise the purse till I can bring in more shooters. So don't frown on me, I'm giving away free money.
If I took in $320.00, I would give away $500.00
I don't realy care about the money but races to 2 is no good, not for the players and not for this sport, I would never enter a tournament in this type of format.

i wouldnt go for that format. its more like a lottery than a tournament. race to 2 is no good. 9 off the break and boom youre on the hill. not a very good format.

Ok, then please tell me what would bring in shooters. What format would you prefer. I'm new at this. Give me some suggestions please.
If you are short on table time or you just want to finish it in one night then I would rather go with a format of a single elimination and longer races like a race to 6 or 7.
You can also divide the players into groups that would play either round robin or double elimination and then have the top players go into a playoff that could be single or double elimination.
If you start on 3pm and you have 32 players then you should be done at about 11pm (give or take an hour)

I'm afraid with only 2 tables and needing to complete in one night, races to 6 or 7 would last into the wee hours if I had as many players as I would like to have. Plus the other shooters would have a long time waiting, they hate sitting more than an hour. Most shooters around here are on the average a SL 5. I have a tough crowd to please here in the sticks.
why only 2 tables :?: is it a bar or a pool hall :?:
you can always divide the tournament into a few days thing, like over a weekend or once or twice a week for a month long tournament.

It's a bar. It's the largest bar around for 40 miles. I don't spread it out over days because we have a tournament every other weekend. Feb. is 8 ball, Mar is 9 ball. You see, this bar is new and losing it's butt. I'm trying to bring in some business for them and promote my new league at the same time. I would love to do a 3 day tourny, but I doubt that any of these farm people would be interested.

Hey Diamond,
Best of luck, whatever you end up doing :!:
Try to get a sponsorship from one of the beer companies that the bar sells, all you need from them is one or two cags of beer, come up with the idea to them as if it will promote their product, tell them you'll call the tournament " Wolcottville beer brand pool tournament" and ask them for promotional products like posters that you're going to hang in the bar, advertise that who ever sign up will be able to drink free beer (from the brand that give you sponsorship) as long as he/she is still in the tournament and not got eliminated. If you can't get the beer for free then work it out with the bar owner and try to buy it cheap somewere.

I run a weekly tourny every Sunday at Our Eagles Club. Also run a bi-weekly Monday nite 9-ball tourny. At our tourny the players actually donate an extra dollar for a big tourny at the end of March. It is a memorial tourny in honor of one of our deceased members. The tournys are only $5 entry plus an extra dollar going into the prize fund for the March tourny. These tournys are not a big money paying event. That is not their intention. The purpose of these tournys is to get people together and have a good time. It's not to say that the winner can't walk away with 50 or 60 dollars, all depends on the number of entrants. We play 8 ball on Sunday, usually a race to 2 on the winners side, and 1 on the losers. We have two tables and depending on the number of players and how quick they play, 10:00 pm is usually when we are done. If your players want to, you could run a calcutta and get the purse up a little higher. It's just a matter of your players and knowing what they want to do. Sorry this is so long, but this format works for us. You have to find what works in your place.

Thank you so much for all of your ideas. I will try different things to see what works best in this area. I truely never meant to start such a ruckuss. Tough crowd here, I have learned quickly from my mistakes. For anyone going to Allen Hopkins Expo in March, look me up. I'll be there!
I am going to the expo.
See you at the Seyberts stand.Good luck in the comp.
