View Full Version : Shaft Cloths: Q-Wiz, Cue Cue Shaft Slicker, etc.

I clean my shaft using the various "Q" products, but don't want to use all the liquids and sand paper too often.

Was thinking of getting Q-Wiz or the Cue Shaft Slicker.

Questions?

1. What do the denizens of Seyberts think of these?

2. Do these "sand down" the shaft with usage? Specifically, Q-Wiz says it doesn't but I find it hard to believe.

Thanks.

I have used Q-Wis for a long time myself, and find it the best way to keep the shaft in top shape. I will typically use Q-Clean to remove the contaminants first. After which, I go through the burnishing steps. Now whether or not it 'sands down' the shaft, is a matter of opinion. You see, your definition of sand it down, may be different from mine. But when it comes down to it, yes there will be a slight amount removed. However, it is such a minute amount, it could likely not be measured except by the most expensive of micrometers. I would not worry about it, just do not be excessive...

between the 4 Q -Clean products (which I use every couple of weeks).

Do you think it works when used in this manner?

Maybe after ten years you will be able to measure... :)

But really, I do not see why you should need to use the q-wiz that often really.. A slightly dampened terry cloth, should work fine for cleaning it.. Then if need be use the yellow burnishing paper to smooth it back out again. The white and blue should rarely be needed.

If you stick to just using the green and yellow, you will probably never be able to measure a difference.. Unless you work for NASA...

The Q-wiz is an unusual thing in the billiards world. A gadget that actually works better than advertised.

Another good thing to get is something that costs nothing. When the local pool room is having its tables recovered, try to get some of the cloth from the cloth that is being removed, ideally the strips of cloth that were under the rails. That cloth is typically almost like new. This cloth, especially if it is Simonis or Granito, is slightly abrasive and will clean the grunge off the shaft that accumulates while you play. A few strokes will clean the shaft like new. A small (4" square or so) square works very well. It fits almost anywhere, costs nothing at all and lasts pretty much forever.

JKraged, Assuming I'm not around pool halls which are remodelling, will Q-Wiz do the trick?

Why is Q-Wiz so great? And what is it so great at?

If your local pool hall doesn't periodically recover their tables, I would suggest you look for a new place to play.

The Q-wiz is a simple tool that cleans and burnishes your cue shaft. The rough side cleans it and the smooth side burnishes it. It also is washable and, from what I have seen with mine, will last for a very long time. It doesn't cost much either.

It doesn't slice and dice but it does what it was made for very well.

I have one and use it, and can attest that it does work as well as jkregan says. It is one of those rare products that works as well, or better in this case, than advertised. I also concur that if where you play doesn't recover their tables, to find somewhere else to play.

Ok, I'm sold on the Q-Wiz, but is it better than just cloth for cleaning between using the 4 Q-Clean products? Or, is it a substitute for the Q-Clean products?

Once you have your cue clean and smooth, you should be able to use only a light cleaner like Q-slick and the Q-wiz to keep it in top shape. Another thing to do is to use the paper towels you use to dry your hands to clean the accumulation of schmutz that occurs as you shoot. Do this during the match and thoroughly dry your shaft right after and you should be good to go.

Also, a tip on using powder. Washing and drying your hands should be the only thing you have to do. If you have clammy or sweaty hands and wish to use powder, try this. Apply a small amount of powder to your hands and rub it in well. After this, the powder will have done its work and you can wipe your hands off with a dry towel. Your hands will be dry and slick, you won't leave powder residue on the rails and cloth and the owner will be in a better mood.

Got the Q-Wiz thingy and it's pretty good. I think it cleans much better than just a towel and plan to use it for cleanings between using the 4 Qclean products.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but how often do you use the Q-clean kit and the Q-wiz discs? Obviously it depends on your usage, but just to give me some idea.

Does using Q-wiz remove the glide/slick applications from the other Q products?
