I have recently moved to FL as some of you know and with that I left my table behind. Of course i can go to the pool hall to practice but it costs like 12 bucks an hour here. So my practice time is now limited severly. I know others must have this problem, so I am wondering if you practice and if so what do you practice?
At home i had all the time in the world, and all the privacy to practice whatever I wanted. Not that im embarrassed or anything but Its kind of weird to go to the pool hall alone. I guess I have no choice now. but im interested to hear your thoughts and opinions.
Has anyone ever had or played on an outside table??? It probibly is a dumb idea but I have some room for one if i wanted but I am unsure of the quality of it over some time. Especially in rain and other elements.
OPINONS PLEASE...

I used to play at Clicks by myself all the time. Actually often preferred it, as I get more practice time in.. Nothing to be embarressed about at all..
I say just start going to the pool hall a lot. Perhaps once you are considered a regular, they will give you a break on table time. Also check in to joining a league. A lot of pool halls will let you shoot free Monday thru Thursday, if you are on a league with them.

yeah if youre a regular they will give you a break on table time, discounts on accesories, etc. im sorry to hear that its so expensive there. here its 4 but i have a pracitce pass so its $40 a month. even though i have a table at home i go to the pool room alot. i dont think an outside table would be a good idea. cloth durable enough to withstand the weather cant be very good.

Especially in the hot/humid weather we have here... We also have a lot of sudden change in weather. During the rain season, it will rain hard for an hour everyday around lunch, then immediately the sun comes out and warms things up again...

I go to the pool hall by myself to practice sometimes. It doesn't bother me. I go to practice, not play. Therefore, it's probably better that I go alone. I actually accomplish something this way. It's only $4 an hour here for one person.
As for an outside table, I'm not sure if that is a good idea with the way the temperature changes. It seems like it would have some adverse affect on the table and the cloth.

I almost never practice with someone.......at least I don't consider it practice when I play with another person.
Doing drills helps my game out more than having to deal with someone else's misses, antics, bad racks or banter. I would rather have the solitude of drills or being able to set a shot back up and shoot it 10-20 times. You can't really do that playing against someone else.
Golfers practice at a range to perfect their swing, not out on the course.
Just my opinion, hope it means something to someone.

I am going to the pool hall tonight to practice up. But because it is always fun to play as well I find myself finding a game when i want to practice. When faced with the decision to play or practice i am sorry to say i love to play pool and if someone wants a game it is hard to turn it down. Yes they do have a league 8ball on WED and 9 ball on THUR. SO I think i am going to go tonight to practice so I can kick some ass tomarrow... HELL YEAH!
And as far as a table outside it was pretty much a pipe dream anyways. I was just curious to hear if any of you have ever played or even seen one played on before... Ill stick to the pool room.
The pool hall has $5 unlimited play on weekdays before 7 but the problem is i don't get home until 5:30, 6:00 so by the time I get to the pool hall Im paying 12 per hour kinda sucks oh well its the price we pay to play.

What part of Florida did you move to? Or is it a secret hiding place?
It is always nice to find someone to shoot with, especially when you move to somewhere new and want to make some new friends.

There is a place called Kelly's in Coconut Grove I believe. They had a $10 all you can drink all you can shoot Monday night special, or something like that.
At least they did in 2000, the last time I was down there. If you feel like making a trip Thorsten plays at the pool room up here in Jacksonville and always practices with me and some other people.
I need to make a trip to South Florida soon, I miss that type of action. Same with Orlando, Tampa and P-cola.
Moral to the story: I need to get out more.

You and me both. Since I now have table at home, I rarely go out to shoot pool anymore. Maybe once a month. Good thing is, I am savings a couple hundred bucks a month... :)

I am lucky, the pool room that I practice at gives me 50% off of pool time there. The owner is very proactive about the sport and it's players, that is why he signed Thorsten Hohmann to be house pro there.
The room is really nice, the nicest in Jacksonville by far. Beware of the tables though, they are Olhausens that have the pockets cut at a big angle, so they spit out a lot of shots. It will make you a better player, but will also frustrate the crap out of you if you are not prepared.

I have not paid for table time at Clicks in probably 3 years.. Any money spent is on drinks, food, or tips... :(
When I was going there every day a couple years ago or so, Microsoft Money reports tell me I spent anywhere from 1000-1500 bucks there a month... Crazy considering none of it was for table time... :(
Those days are GONE GONE GONE!!!!!!

thorsten hohmann is a very clasy pool player he was up here sept 03 for the nj straight pool championship which he ended up winning. he was so nice and such a good player. he walked across the highway from his hotel to the pool room so he wouldnt have to bother someone for a ride. if i knew then i would have picked him up!

I'd love to meet those guys... It would be a real thrill for me especially if we were able to play a few games.
My girlfriend and I went to a Womans Tournament in East Peoria, IL and that was just awsome. I got to meet Jennete Lee and some other Great players. I would of just died to play them in a match...

My old team captain played Jennette while she was in Orlando a few years back. Guess who won.....
Not Jennette...

He pwned her.. lol....
They played three racks. Scotty ran out the first... Jennette missed a push off the second, and sat down for the remainder of the match.
Scotty is an APA 7. He typically shoots very well, although every so often you can catch him on a bad night and get one up on him..

I don't think it is that big a deal. Chance plays a big role in 9 ball. I mean, 3 games?? I've ran out that many racks in a row myself... Just never while playing someone famous like that. Yeah he gets bragging rights now, but a lot of us have ran some balls before... He just did it with a crowd watching, while matched against her... :)
But yeah, rock on Scotty!! lol
I just saw it today that Hohmann signed with Bankshots Billiards, next time you'll see him ask him how did he get a green card

There are a lot of strong players out there that do not turn pros for many reasons, like family for one example, nothing strange about it.
Amen to that. There's a guy in our league who shoots a great game normally, but when you see him in a situation that counts, he seems to kick it up a notch. He can make a cue ball dance. If you tell him he needs to run the table, or that he needs to hold his opponent to one ball in the game, he will almost always come through. I know that if he wanted to do it, he could go pro, but he's happy doing what he does. He plays in three leagues at a time that I know of, he spends a lot of time with people he likes, and he goes to Vegas every year for the VNEA tournament.

I dont want to have to make a living at play pool, and for me that would take the enjoyment out. I want to be able to do my "hobby" when I please, not be told when to do it and where.
Zach
Yeah.
Travelling the world for 5, 6 and 7 figure purses and "working" a couple hours a day for a couple days a week for a couple weeks a month would sure suck.

I don't know about everybody else, but I can think of alot worse ways to make a living than playing pool....so far it's been a good supplement to my crappy job that I have now...
Good player get paid just to show up at the tournament. Take Jennette Lee for example, she charged about 2,000 a day to play a 3 day tournament in Taiwan. This year she ask for 10,000 a day to play. But the tourney host dropped her like a bad habbit because absurd amount she asked for. Plus, she is even No.1 in the world.
sorry about the error, I meant that she is not the No.1 payer in the world.

Im sure those two guys are quality players, but there may also be a psychological factor at work there as well. Hohmann probably idolized the best players in his hometown when he began to play pool. Its very hard to change that student / teacher dynamic. Even though I am the same rank now as my teacher, I dont play as well against him as I do against other equally skilled players.
Just a thought.
