View Full Version : You're Fired - Question

Okay...I just don't get this show...The Apprentice. First of all, how can you be fired if you're never hired? The whole point of the show is to get hired and become The Apprentice. It should be more like, "You're Outta Here!" in my opinion. You simply can not be fired if you've never been hired. Maybe Donald isn't as smart as we think. After all, the man has almost lost all of his money several times. Not only that, but he has filed bankruptcy several times on some of his business ventures. He just filed on his Casinos again not too long ago. I'm not sure that he really knows what he's doing. Maybe his board members should evaluate him and then during the finale show of The Apprentice...look at him and say, "You're Fired!". I would definitely watch that episode. That would be something to see. I know I would fire him if I was a board member. hehehe

Loosing almost every thing you got and getting it all back and more is very hard to do and he's done it and right now I'm sure most people would like to trade bank accounts with him.
There's a lot of things that are hidden from the regular joe when it comes to business especially in such high level of business as "the donald" runs,
Sometimes filing for a bankruptcy is not a bad thing, sometimes it's a way to make more money

i dont think its right that you say hes not smart or bash him like that. he is very smart if you read his books you would know that. he also makes money on his golf courses and his books. he is very smart and is respected.

If you're a good business person, you shouldn't be losing everything to begin with though. You should know how to be successful without losing it all and trying to gain it all back. Losing it and then gaining it all back over and over again isn't a good thing in my opinion. You should gain it all and keep gaining more. Add to it. If I have $10 and then lose $2, I have $8. If I have $10 and then make $2, I now have $12. Which is better? The object is to try to keep making money, not losing it, but all companies lose and gain. I understand that. Lose a little, gain a little...but don't lose it all like "The Donald". But you're right though, bankruptcy is a good way to make money. You eliminate most of your debt so that you can start over fresh. However, if bankruptcy is such a good thing sometimes, why does everyone frown upon it...especially if you have filed personal bankruptcy? Is it okay for a business, but not for an individual? It doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, back to the original question. How can someone be fired if they were never hired to begin with? It doesn't take a smart person to figure out that this is stupid and doesn't make sense. lol
Just my opinions!

Konur,
I have a BBA in business. I don't have to agree with the way others do business. A lot of people do business illegally, or incorrectly. Business practices can change. They don't have to remain the same as they have been for years. A lot of people do not change. Just my opinion.
As for the "You're Fired" line, I think it is stupid when the person was never hired to begin with. I realize it's a "catch phrase". I know what it is used for. However, it doesn't make sense. Why not say, "You're Outta Here!", which would be more appropriate and just as "catchy"? Once again, this is just my opinion.
I'm just trying to start up some conversation. I'm not trying to create any arguments.

okay so....
I would agree that you should not have to lose everything then get it back, however... I think part of investing, whether it bein the stock market, a money game of pool, a bet on the super bowl, whatever... Is about taking risks... I would think unless you can actually go back in time and bring back and almanac, then you will never know 100% of the time how things are gonna go...
That said, I don't think you can really make it BIG in anything, unless 1. you are damn lucky or, 2. you take risks...
Bill Gates = Lucky
Donald Trump = Risk Taker
And yes, everyone try and stay cool here.. I dont think Erik is ill intentioned, just trying to drum up some conversation.. :)
And for the catch phrase, I kinda like the whole "You're Fired" thing.. However, about 3 years ago on WWF wrestling, Stephanie McMahon became, for a time, the manager... And whenever she would fire someone, those were her exact words.. And it was said with the same tone as Trump.. Personally, I think he probably ripped it off from WWF (Now WWE....)
p.s. konur, your avatar scares me!! lol... 8O

You're right! I'm just trying to start up some conversation. I absolutely agree with what you said. One must either be lucky or be a risk taker. I don't think you have to lose all your money and then try to get it all back though. Everyone loses some and gains some. That is life. It is to be expected. I am not certain that "The Donald" has lost it all though. I just know that he has lost a lot and has filed bankruptcy many times. It's just funny how the world works. If you're a company it seems to be an okay thing to file bankruptcy. Heck, the airlines have done it more times than we can count. They are always being bailed out. However, if you're an individual filing bankruptcy it doesn't seem to be okay. No one wants to do business with you any more. It gets a lot deeper than all of this so I will just leave this topic up for discussion another day.
I don't watch the WWF, never did really. Therefore, I'm not sure if "The Donald" stole the "You're Fired" phrase from the WWF or not. It wouldn't surprise me any if he did. I can't believe he was actually going to try (or did try) to make those words his own. Anything for a buck I guess. Maybe I will make the words, "You're Outta Here" mine. I could probably try to make some other phrases mine too. lol

I don't think it's a big "loss" when someone files bankrupty. You have to know how it works...
in real life example...an elder couple were forced to file bankrupty as their home for the past 20 years were in danger of being taken away, all of the transportation (Just a pick up truck and a car).
They had a Semi Truck leasing business that just went sour so they had nearly 300,000 in debt.
So they were to stand to lose just EVERYTHING except for the clothes on their back.
Result of after filing bankrupty? They were able to keep the house, keep the truck and car (Truck only had 2 more payments and it would be done) and as for the car, it only had one more year of payments, and the house had 2 or 3 mortage payments on it. They managed to refinance the house and the car into one payment.
It's been nearly 2 years since the bankrupty filing, and their credit is EXCELLENT. They still have the house, the truck and the car.
How is that a loss? :) I would think if you had lost the house, you really lose everything.
Just my opinion.
"You're Outta Here" - sounds like a Baseball empire after the third strike
Does any of you remember the Seinfeld episod in which Kramer got fired from a job he realy never got hired to do, that one was one of seinfeld's best

It sure does, doesn't it? lol
Well...I will come up with some other "catchy" phrase to make my own then. Then again, "You're Outta Here" is a "catchy" phrase. I will just make it mine. If "The Donald" can try to make words his, then I can try to make words mine...right? hahaha
Anyway, I think we've gotten off the question I asked. How can someone be fired if they were never hired to begin with?
8) 8) 8) 8)
Yes it's a good question indeed.
Personally I think the people were "hired" at first....as a "trial" basis...(Kinda like the temp agency...work for 60 days...if they like you..they keep you..if they don't like you..well ya're outta there)
Then Donald & the board members evaluate and decide who needs to be "let go".
*shrug* Just how i see it.

However, when you work for a company through a temp service you are working for the temp service (on a "trial" basis), not the company. After a certain period of time, the company has the opportunity to hire you or not hire you. I have worked for temp services in the past.
Hmmm...

I have worked for Temp Services before too. They suck.
I would rather work at McDonald and seek for a professional job than to be bouncing around.

No offense taken Konur. I just like to start up conversations.
I am going to go back to working on my custom layered genuine cowhide cue tip now. I took an old belt and stripped the paint off of it. Now I am going to "case" it, press it nice and flat, harden it, glue the layers together, laminate it, put it on one of my shafts, and try it out. If it works, maybe all of you will be buying the new "Little PoolHustler" cue tips" soon. I am going to take pictures during my cue tip making venture and post them on my forum so everyone can stay updated. I found some good information, so this may just work. We'll see! It's worth a try.

At one point I worked for a technolgy temp service called TEKsystems. This was when I was around 18 years old or so. I actually enjoyed working for them, not to many of my friends were making 15 bucks an hour. And the contracts we got were decent. But most important of all, I made a lot of good contacts, which to this day I still use from time to time.
Personally I think a temp agency can be good for that reason, it allows you to network with people.
